Concerned about getting banned - please help

I have been thinking of modding my son's Xbox. I think I am good on everything I need. However I am concerned about him getting banned from Live. I have read several post about people that have been banned which makes me hesitant but I have also read about how to Stealth Patch games so that you will have a better chance of not getting banned. I was curious, what is everyone's experience? Also what exactly is Microsoft looking at to ban a console, the burned game or the drive that has been flashed? Just curious if maybe we could just not use a backup for his games that he is going to play online.
My curious on modding his console came after he and several of his friends were playing the Wii and Xbox (split the screen so Xbox on one side Wii on the other) and the jumping up and down form the Wii game caused the Xbox game to hit the laser and thus ring around the disk and it's ruined. I did the hardware mod for his Wii a couple of years ago and it's been the best thing ever, no problems with it at all.

modding a system always give way to a chance that it will get banned, there is no answer one is able to give that will eliminate that scenario, the modding of today also requires you to have a special burner to burn games, i dont know if you weighed that part in. As far as the ring on the disc, those can be repaired, i fix them in my store all the time.

If you had a dvd emulator for the xbox you wouldn't have had that ring on the disc.
and you would be modded!
read up on the xk3y, wasabi and x360dock these are all a great alternative to having to buy tools to flash your dvd drive also you dont have to take apart your xobox everytime you need updated! and if games need updated you dont need to reburn you can just update games on ther drive!
but like peluynati said nothing is considered to be 100% safe outside of keeping your console offline.

not sure how wasabi or the 360dock work but you'd still need tools to get the key off your drive for the xk3y or pay somebody to do it.
to the OP... if you're going to mod a box and play consistently on xbl, just plan on it getting banned at some point. might be 2 weeks... could be 2 years... it's just the gamble you take.

Wii modding is far easier and risk-free compared to 360 modding.
MS are constantly trying to fight back at people using modded 360s. What usually happens is that people are "safe" for a while, then MS come up with some new protection/detection method, then a bunch of people get flagged and/or banned, the modding scene come up with new firmware, then the process starts all over again. Loads of people on here (and other modding sites) got flagged due to the recent silent updates to dae.bin, for instance.
I consider myself to be fairly clued up on this stuff and I'm always reading forums and modding sites to keep on top of the latest info, yet I managed to get a console flagged when MS first came up with the AP2.5 protection they use on games, because nobody yet knew about it. I booted a game, it didn't work, my console was flagged and that was that, so there is no way to ensure that you don't get caught out as the response from the modding scene is usually reactive, not proactive and therefore there's always small windows where you can get caught out.

I guess to add to this. I say if you plan on playing any popular game that has a big online multiplayer offering you need to be extremely cautious as those games will mostly be the target for flagging a modded xbox. When titles like MW,GOW, AC come up or monumental changes like Xdg3 arise, I tend to stay offline with those or avoid playing them altogether until things start to change.
I may have been flagged but I honestly don't want to know so I'm just waiting. I had a friend who was playing an xdg3 disc online just fine and up to now hasn't been hit with the the silent download and his drive is different from mines. So they are all sorts of things that play into the chances of you getting flagged or not.

The xkey has a additional hardware they sell for it now that should be releasing soon called the gecko it can read keys and read disc profiles..

One question, it looks like with an ODDE like the Wasabi there is no flash of the Xbox drive needed? So would this mean that maybe for playing games on Live, just use the original disk? Or does Microsoft still see say the Wasabi X360 installed and thus would ban the console even if an original disk is being used?

I did the hardware mod on the wii instead of the software one b/c it's so much easier for a 7yr old to understand to just insert a disk. However now that he's 9 I know he would not have any problems. I would always recomend using original disc if its something you know your gonna play online. both of my brothers buy and only use there orignals for big titles and have never gotten flagged by M$

It sounds like the answer to this question is YES they can ban you even if you are using an original disk but your system has been modded.
I understand that nothing is 100% safe. I'm just trying to keep from things like a ruined disk from happening too many times. I know Game Stop sells their $1-3 per disk replacement option when you buy a disk (found that out a little late for his Cars 2 game) but it's only good for a year.

I have never read anywhere if M$ can detect if you have a ODDE.
I always go by the assumption sooner or later they will find a way to detect if we are using a modded system.
But history has shown the moment they do that we find a way to hide it again!
