I have updated one xbox console but the second one is giving me problems ,each time that I burn the new update to cd and put in the console it reads it and I get an open error.I can play original games on the console so thats not the problem. I need to know if it is wise to get the download from xbox live. I really hope that nobody treat this as a dumb question. Thanks

Is your console modded with a flashed dvd drive or is it jtaged? If both are jtaged by different people its possible that the download is blocked on one by removing or bridging a resistor on the board to prevent accidental updates and the precaution wasnt taken on the other. try changing the update folders name to $$ystemupdate. normally its $systemupdate. Its a jtag thing. Oh if it is a jtag you have to apply an updated flash first or the update will kill the jtag.
If its just flashed you could get banned especially if its not up to date or flashed improper meaning without the full keyvault info. just the key and drive info without the rest of the console info that shows up in jungle flasher like the console Id numbers and so on isn't enough to be safe on line. I use a usb stick formatted to fat32 and usually get updates from xbins. There are other sources but when you just go anywhere on line you just really don't know, though If it worked on one console it should be a good update and work on any. You could put the $systemupdate folder on a fat32 formatted usb stick or card reader and boot the system after you put it in. It should boot and ask If you want to update. If its a jtag just remember what I said above about having to update the flash first. hope this helps some.
