i have a benq drive model VAD6038 which the dvd tray tends to stick. i've removed the drive from the 360 and have opened up the case. i've used a side by side comparison with another drive (liteon) and can't find what the problem is or how to remedy it.
i've done the normal fixes like cleaning and removing the rubber band around the gears, none of which works. Now there is a slight resisitance that i've noticed in the front corners of the tray when it's sticking. a slight tug and the tray will open, but remember this is with the entire dvd drive taken apart, i need it to operate normally when put together. After the gentle tug a clicking or snapping sound happens and then the tray is released. this leads me to believe that the tray is getting stuck somewhere and i know that it's in the front not the rear.
Can anyone lend some advice and knowledge on why it's getting stuck and how to find a solution? Thank you

Sounds like one of the teeth on the gears actuated by the drive tray motor, are broken/cracked. (you can see the drive motor and belt, when you open the tray and look into the bottom -- it's in the front) You can replace the drive, by buying the same drive for $30 on ebay; Swap out the DVD I/O board (the board that has your key) and your good with a new drive. Or, save the key from this drive with Jungleflasher, and flash the new drive with it. If you've opened it all up already, then you're alost done with it! Removing the board from the new and old drive and swapping them out won't take much.
you should also look really close at the tray itself, it has teeth on it, i have seen a few where the teeth where broken on the dray and that was causing it to hang.

Also, when you push the open button, it does act like it's trying to open with a noise? And slight movement? I've fixed that by replacing the drive tray motor belt. You can replace that often without even opening the DVD shell. Open the tray, just below, front middle -- though I cannot remember if the Benq is as visable as athers or not.
yes you hear a sound like it's trying to open and a very slight movement. First thought is it's getting jammed by something. if you can manually open the tray when it's opened, which i've done, i dont see how the belt would cause it to get stuck. Something is definitely getting stuck. Is there a away to take the entire tray out?
