E74 RROD on new box

On a brand new (albeit manufactured 2009-09-09) store-bought Jasper there is an E74 RROD error.

I've read this is sometimes attributed to a faulty video cord. Could this be related to faulty monitor buttons? They sometimes glitch out, both the power button and the button that switches between DVI and HDMI. The xbox is hooked up via HDMI.

I've read the error also has to do with the solder on the ANA/HANA scaling chips coming loose. Is this verifiable? I'm no electronics guy.

Perhaps there's something I didn't think of?

Thx for any help. I'd very much prefer not to sacrifice this box to warranty limbo. Stupid toys r us no return policy.

your best bet is just to send it in unfortunately, if its still under warranty. that really sucks, i suppose you could have it reflowed, or replace the x clamps. its a cold solder join under the hana/ana chip, m$ went "safe" i guess and used the wrong lead free solder.

e74 is covered for 3 years, just log on to xbox website and do a service request. DO NOT CALL THEM, they will try to charge you, best bet is do it on line.
