Hello, I am a noob at the xbox mod thing, but I have been doing some searching and I am getting mixed answers on the web.

I bought a flashed drive xbox 360 120gb and it is running dashboard 2.0.14719.0. I have a BenQ drive from the best I can tell from research, but I dont know what LT+ version it has.

I bought this for my kid to play games on and for him to watch NetFlix on, but it says that it needs to connect and make an update when I try to open NetFlix. He is not going to be playing games online.

My question is, can I get the update just so I can get the NetFlix to work or will it brick the system? Some posts I read say that I dont need to flash back to stock first, and some say I do.

Thanks in advance, and i hope i supplied all needed info.

You're not on the latest dashboard. In order for Netflix to run on the XBox, it's going to require the latest. Updating it shouldn't re-flash the drive. However, if you're running an out of date custom firmware, anything pre LT 3.0, there's always the chance that MS could detect that when the XBox is running and ban the XBox, in which case, you wouldn't be able to use it for Netflix. Even running the most current custom firmware isn't 100% safe, but running old custom firmware is even less safe.

However, I haven't heard of many people being banned in the last couple of years, so you're probably OK, for now. At the end of the day, without more detailed information about what custom firmware you're running, what kind of drive it definitely is, etc... nobody can tell you for certain what's going to happen if you update. I think you'll be fine, but update at your own risk. If he's not going to play online anyway, then getting banned really wouldn't matter. You'd just have to go out and buy something else for his Netflix streaming, obviously, if the XBox got banned. .

Ok, thank you very much, I think I will gamble and try that..I have since decided that I am going to get an un-modded Xbox as well, so that way I have the best of both worlds..

Thanks again, I appreciate it.
