hello people,
this has probaly been answered already but i couldnt find anything recent on the topic so is there any way that i can flash my xbox using my macbook pro late 2011 i have a boot camp set up already but i dont know what hardware i need.

I've not talked to anyone who's ever used an Apple product to flash a drive, and even less people who try with a laptop. I'm not sure it's even possible. You're probably going to need a desktop computer! The problem is, you need to hook your XBox drive up to your computer's motherboard via SATA and you also need to have a compatible motherboard. I don't think flashing via laptop is really even an option. If it is, it's not an easy one, at all!

Now the xK3y fanboys will all claim that an xkey is safer, but seriously, noone knows, there hasn't been a banwave in years and the only reported bans were due to playing games early (Halo 4 one month before the release date for example) or doing other stupid things, and then it doesn't matter if you're using an xkey or a flashed drive. So if you are able to do the flash yourself and don't want to play EVERY game released you're way cheaper when you just flash your drive. You might have to reflash once or twice a year though due updates for the flashed firmware.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

The only reason I've ever thought an xkey might be safer is you're not running any custom firmware/software, you're simply emulating the DVD drive. Now, whether MS can detect that or not, I don't know. However, flashing or an xkey both require a little know-how to install, but at the end of the day, I think the xkey is just easier to maintain and update, not having to open your XBox to reflash, etc... Not to mention, it's nice just dragging and dropping ISOs onto a hard drive, versus having to burn games and worry about messing up discs, etc...

If you don't want to play every game released, it's more expensive though.

^^^ You're right, if you're not gonna burn many games, an xkey would be more expensive. I've done both, and I just love not having to mess with discs and just scroll through games on my hard drive!
