Getting back into modding- have a couple of ??

I had been modding my 360 phat myself until it finally crapped out on me. It was a BenQ drive so it was pretty simple. It's been about 1 1/2 years since I've been out of the loop so I would like to know which is the best way to go. I've looked into the xk3y and the Lizard 360. The xk3y just seems to easy to be true. Which mod are you using and why? As I said, I've been out of the loop for quite a while so if there's anything you think I should know, feel free to chime in.
BTW, yes, I've read the sticky already too. :)

I've been running an xkey for a year and a half. It couldn't be easier. Drag your ISOs onto a hard drive or thumb drive, plug them into the xkey remote and you're playing! No more burning discs, flashing drives and having to re-flash and update drive firmware, open your XBox, etc...
There is the initial setup, getting the drive key off your XBox drive and putting it on the xkey, then installing the xkey. There's tons of tutorials for all of this on this site and youtube. I've also been using my xkey on Live for the whole time and everything is still fine here. No bans, warnings, or other problems. I also have several friends who've had theirs for over a year with no problems. If you've flashed a drive before, installing an xkey won't be any harder, once you read over the directions.
Yes, the xkey is that good and it is true!

Thanks Joe! Sounds great! A couple of other questions now- I have backups I was using from my previous mod. They've been run thru abgx(older version) so will I have to run them thru again or will I have to re-dump my games and use a "fresh" ISO? What I'm asking is, do I need a "stock" ISO?

If they were ran through ABGX, previously, and were done correctly, you should be able to put them right on a hard drive and run them with the xkey. Hell, I've played a bunch of games with my xkey that I haven't ran through ABGX and I've still never had a problem. Although, I try to always use ABGX.

This is only halfway true. You have to grab the drive key off the drive and for the phat drives that is actually the hardest part of flashing. And also LT 3.0 has been out since christmas 2011, which means no need to reflash in over 1.5 years, there haven been updates for the xkey though. Also you have to consider the price, the Xbox One is getting released by the end of this year, which means new games for Xbox 360 could stop getting released shortly after (and with Microsoft's policy I am sure they will), that also means that Microsoft won't put too much efford into the security for the Xbox 360 any more. Don't get me wrong, I love playing games off my harddrive with my hacked PS3, but I wouldn't use it if it wasn't for the DLC (and if I wouldn't have gotten the PS3 for under 40 Euro off ebay), which the xkey can't. Oh yea, and about that Xbox live safety, there hasn't been a banwave since 2011 (or was that 2010?), so only extreme stupidity could get you banned, like playing Halo 4 early.
If you're not a hardcore gamer who wants to play every game released and have a phat I'd say the xkey just doesn't pay off. If you have a slim flashing is a pain in the a.., so an xkey in my oppinion is the better alternative. So if you want it cheap get a late phat with a mfr date from late 2008 or 2009 off ebay or craiglist (or gamestop) and flash the drive with LT 3.0.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

I'm not that hardcore- the last game I got for my 360 was Black Ops II. Probably the next one I get will be Ghost. The box I want to mod is a phat model with a lite on drive. I was planning to have someone flash it for $30 but thought if it was easy enough, I'd do it myself. I mainly want it to play my backups cause I also have a slim model that I'm gonna leave un-modded. That xk3y sounds great but it almost sounds like a $30 flash is the way to go. Now, if I do get it flashed, I'd just have to run my backups thru abgx and re-burn them, correct? The only ones that are xdg3 are the newer games?

With older backups you don't neccessarily have to reburn them, could be that they still work. Only Xgd3 and very few xgd2 ones need the topology data patching you do with ABGX.
About getting the key off a liteon drive:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds4SViHu6NE (it's called pogo mo thoin method, that's irish for kiss my a..), for probing I used a needle connected to the xbox 360 internal metal chassis for grounding, if you still have the wires from your old dead xbox 360 you can use the drive power cable for switching the drive off, just cut the second wire from the left, de-isolate the cut endings and put a little switch in between. There were times when it took me only about 15 minutes to totally dismantle the Xbox 360, grab the key, flash the drive and put everything back together.

I guess I should have asked how often he plays, and how long he plans to continue using his XBox360. If he only plans to get another couple games, then a flash might be the way to go. For someone who has a large library of XBox360 games and doesn't want to deal with backing up onto discs or switching games in and out of a drive, the xkey is still the way to go.
I'll be getting the next gen systems, but I still have a ton of 360 games and I'll likely keep playing my 360, so an xkey was and still is, very beneficial to me.

Yea, because that's exactly what Microsoft did with the original Xbox. There were hardly any new games for the Xbox in 2006 after the release of the Xbox 360 and I assume that's going to happen with the Xbox 360 too in 2014.

That is true. But, the XBox360 brand has grown quite a bit larger than the original XBox ever was. Obviously, all of the big franchise games like Gears of War, Halo, etc... will only be on XBox One. But, we'll likely see new sports games for at least a couple of years as well as other cross platform titles that aren't flagship games.

Just to update, I wound up taking my box to a local guy who flashed it for $30. I don't plan on buying too many games in the future so if they cut off the releases to the 360 at least I'm only out $30 . If I do buy new games, they'll most likely be for my PS3. Thank all you guys for the quick answers!
