About 2 months ago my xbox was having trouble reading disks i would have to turn it on and off about 20 times to get it to read the disk and so i sent it in for repair i got it back worked great and now 3 months later same deal and its also freezing up on game start up and then works after a few seconds of being frozen and one time freezed during game play my warranty just expired at the beggining of the month is this a sign of the red ring of death or just disk drive failure?

Doesn't sound like it has anything to do with the RROD to me (I've had two so far)
Optical drive failure sounds like a likely culprit, and if so there are fixes available.
It is possible to replace the drive (with one obtained online or from another xbox) but it will need to be "spoofed" in order to work in your xbox 360.
What this means is that you cant simply crack open the xbox and stick a new drive in. First someone has to connect your old drive to a pc and extract the drives security "key" and then implant it in the new drive so that your 369 recognises it.
If this doesn't sound like something you can do yourself, look around in your area, often the guys who do mods/rrod fixes can spoof drives as well, and besides the cost of the drive itself it shouldn't be that expensive.
Just make sure you get the right model of drive for your particular 360.

Ok sounds about right do you know how much it cost for microsoft to repair it? cause i still have the red ring warranty just the standard warranty expired
