I want to flash my Xbox360 but am running to in several errors.

I have had my 360 flashed before (by someone else) and can play older backed up games. since then my dvd drive broke so I bought a samsung drive and switched it. since then I had updated to dashboard D:2.0.126611 - K:2.0.126611 (BK:2.0.1888.0) now it wont let me do anything like get on netflix without updating, but when I try to update it doesnt let me giving me an E66 warning. I can still play my old backed up games, but that's about it. would like to flash to new version, but the tutorials warn that I need to be updated to latest version of dashboard or I could mess things up. is this true? Do I need to re-flash to original firmware since I believe the original dvd was not a samsung? what programs do I need, just the latest jungle flasher and liteone, or are there precautionary steps I need to take? anything helps, as I cant find this situation out there.

First of all, you need the exact same drive brand your original one was.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

I dont know what the original was, is there another way to look it up without having the physical drive?
Is there any way around it?
its been updated since the switch of drives and flash, but wont update further, and it still plays my old games. just hoping for more... thanks!

If you are below that update that flashes your drive back to stock it is, yes.

Then wouldn't it be easier for the OP to update his Xbox using a USB drive (since he can't update it using Xbox LIVE)? This would enable him to buy a new drive of any company

Same problem, the update would cause an error code and not finish.

You could try this here:

No success guarantee though, and you have to manually write the key to the firmware.

if the samsung drive is not working put in a benq, there are only 2 makers, try the other one! just write your key to a benq with stock and try the update again!!!

Also the MFR Date of your console might be helpful.

mfr date 2006-07-03
Thank you for the link but my question is that they are solving a problem with an e65 error, while mine is an e66 error. does this make a difference?
(although instructions seemed very smart, they seemed a little difficult with lingo a little over my head)
would you recommend unplugging the cd drive and updating without it plugged in and reattaching after the update? would this brick my system?

chances are you original drive was an hitachi, the samsung should work though but those drives are really picky, you need to flash your drive to stock pre 13599 and try to update that way, you also may want to stick to the usb drive to do the update.

As you still have the original key you could also get a Hitachi off ebay, they shouldn't be too expensive and flash that with original firmware. The update shouldn't give you any trouble then.

not 100% what the original drive was, may have even been a samsung. would it be harmful to try to update with the cd drive unplugged?
