I took a look here: (can't show links, "Tutorial & FAQ links" Sticky)
and couldnt really find out HOW to modify my Xbox 360 Slim. It says that if I have a certain drive, I can modify it and if I dont then I cant. My question is: what drive do I have? and then CAN I modify it to play backups?

The MRF date is: 2010-10-22

I dont really care about Xbox live, I just want to be able to play backups of my games (Large Family, lots of disc breaking kids.. >< )

Also, I had previously modified my Wii and PS3, they both can boot games directly off of an external harddrive, is this possible with the Xbox 360 Slim?

DashBoard: 2.0.14699.0

Thanks,
J-Spill

you can RGH your xbox if it is a trinity motherboard, but by the looks of your manufacture date you have a corona, so you will have to wait if you want to do that. It is very possible to modify your DVD drives firmware to play games from backups, but you will have to open it up to find out exactly what type yours is. currently there is firmware available for everything except the hitachis, so if you have one of those you will have to wait.

depending on what you want to do, you may end up having to spend money on parts, or have someone else do it for you. i find it to be a very rewarding experience to learn how to modify your own consoles. good luck.

I apologize for such a basic question, but who currently is selling the "modification" service? What is the price range? is it worth it? and finally- is it safe, Id hate to ship it to someone from this site and then later on find out Im not getting my console back..

i completely understand you, you might want to head over to elitemodscene.com it has a generally more active modding community, pm someone like wabashman or Jpizzle, they will be able to send you in the right direction or even do it themselves.

Xkey will allow you to boot games from an external hard drive. FW and disc flashing is of the past. Xkey has faster updates on games when they are needed and has many custom applications.

xkey is not expensive. Think of all the verbs you won't have to buy anymore. It pays for itself.

Yes disc flashing. It's a new kind of flashing that's doesn't work LOL ;)

Regarding the mfr date yours would be definitely a Trinity, Coronas were released in 2011
