will it let me backup my owned game to the xbox 360 hard drive and play it off it?

no, you use 2.0 to play your backups. 0800 V3 is what you use to make your backups, but you have to have an older xbox drive.

BTW does anyone know if the 0800 V3 will work on a sammy 25 drive?

0800 v3 Firmware
Goes on an Xbox 360 DVD drive to rip retail discs (while it's connected to the PC)
