I'm very new to xbox 360. I just got a black modded xbox 360, dont even know if its slim but i think it is. Anyways I was just wondering if i could join the xbox live meaning like just browsing through the marketplace. I dont really wanna play online but just want to update some content for games can i do that without harming my xbox or is it a taboo to connect modded xbox to the internet. Also how long would it takes for overheating, ive heard something about the red ring of death and im very scared of destroying my xbox. As ive said im a newbie so these questions may be awkward.

hey m8, i just have little infos and I'm sure oldies will help more accurately. by the way, there is no need to scare about ring of the dead because it belonged to very old xboxes, and old motherboards. so no ring of dead for you. secondly, If you put back-up, non-pathched disks to your xbox, even when you are offline, there is a chance that your console flag and maybe some later ban you from connecting to live, FOREVER. and if your console banned then no title update, no gaming, no movies, nothing on live. if you put original disk then it is safe ( I think as safe as possible is better). So be careful about your disks. infos about XBOX GAME DISK 3 is more professional than my infos so I dont touch it. And last thing, w8 now and do not connect to live if you didn't and do not put very new titles because, nowadays m$ silently update some file, namely dae.bin, and it make some big problems for your console. Just w8 and completely complete your infos and then enjoy your new xbox. So for now just w8 for complete pro Infos.
I would stay offline until LT+ 3.0 is released (which will mean having your console reflashed). If you connect to Live now, your 360 will download an update to a file called dae.bin that may render some backups unplayable and flag your console. It's not worth taking the risk when a new firmware update is right around the corner.
