I have someone advertising on a local forum here that he can softmod my xbox 360 that has a liteon 1175 drive. He says no chip or other hardware is required, and that it's just a softmod.
I can't find anything at all to support what he's saying. Is there any truth at all to what he's telling me?

c4eva says it's released, yet I can't find any info on where to buy or what I need to get. Can anyone bring me up to speed on this drive?

The firmware is on the net, you just need to search google for "latest iXtreme Firmware", that should get you the files.
For flashing that drive though it requires an RGH (Reset Glitch Hack), which requires a chip. So unless you know what you're doing, I recommend sending it to someone to get flashed. They charge like $50-$80 for the whole process, cause they first need to RGH your console to get the DVD Key, then they flash the drive with that key.

i cannot believe that somebody can charge 50 dollars to do that, the replacement board alone is 70 dollars, i tell people it would be easier to buy an older model that can be flashed!

what board are you referring to? You can get a DGX for like $30 to grab the CPU key. By the time the 1175 can be easily flashed will be after the new xbox releases.
1.) why are you flashing? What year is this? Xkey is the only answer! Use a hard drive and play on live with the same fears as a flashed drive.
2.) I agree, try to get a older box :)
