Would it be ok to swap out a liteon drive in my phat xbox with a benq drive i.e. what do i need to know to accomplsh this?
Im asking as my friend flashed his benq drive easily, he didnt require probes and it seemed easy to do.

He's trying to take his liteon out of his Phat 360 and put a BenQ in it. He needs to get the key from the liteon, not the BenQ.
seanyd2, it really depends on the drive model you have, and how recent your dashboard is. Most liteon drives require a probe in order to get the key. The only models that didn't require a probe were the 8 series liteons. After a certain dashboard update, it updates the firmware on your liteon to a newer series. Google jungleflasher and you can see the differences of the drives for yourself. If you go through the hassle of buying a probe3 or equivalent, why not just keep the liteon? If you play on live, you'll want to have the liteon in your 360 anyway.

That's kinda the point that whompus was making. It seems that he's considering swapping his LiteOn for a BenQ because the BenQ is easier to flash, but to do that he would have to dump the key from the LiteOn, so if he does that he might as well just flash it and forget the drive swap (which is a bad idea anyway because of the OSIG).
