I pulled a benq drive out of the xbox, flashed it and got the key. Now I want to install a working samsung drive. I can get it into vendor mode but when I click read it gives me an error:
Getting Status from port 0xEB00
Invalid Status 0x80

I've done everything over and over again and I keep getting stuck here. I really need some help on this.

What are you using to flash onboard sata? or x360usb or pro?..Also i wouldnt swap a benq to a samsung. The reason being benq drives console nand send ap25 challenges as your trying to swap a non ap25 drive ie samsung to a console that looks for ap25 challenges it will either not work or will be flagged for a ban.If however you had a console which was originally for a samsung or hitachi 32-59,that console will be able to take any drive as the challenges are ignored. Was your samsung stock firmware when you tried to unlock it?Also what version of your sammy drive is it?Try the sammy unlock with the half tray open.Samsung drives are very fussy when you use onboard sata.

The samsung drive is all I have as a replacement. I believe it was stock firmware. I'm using a sata PC with a via chipset and that's it. This has been so freaking frustrating for me. I work on it every day and every day I get one step closer. I had a heck of a time reading the firmware off the benq drive but I finally got it. Now I have to put it on the samsung drive. I run a computer repair shop and I thought this was going to be a piece of cake! The version of the samsung is m28. Do you really think it would trigger a ban? I'd hate to piss off my customer =S How are you supposed to keep up with these things! (I'm so not a gamer)
Since I have the firmware can't I just simply type it in manually and be done? Do I even need to read the firmware off the samsung drive since I'm planning on writing over it? I wish the manual had more troubleshooting ideas. Or a section for what the error codes mean etc.

Because the samsung drive does not do ap2.5 checks and the benq drive does, the xbox nand will be looking for these checks. As the samsung does not do these it will be looking for something that the samsung does not do ie the checks. If you have managed to get the firmware off the broken benq i would personally find a benq drive maybe off e.bay and remove the pcb out of the old one and into the new drive.Bearing in mind there is a little soldering to do to reattach the wires back onto the new drive. But then there is no need to mess about with spoofing the benq key over if you are running into problems. Are you in the uk?let me know what benq drive version you have this will be on the label at the top of the drive under firmware version. And yes you could or your customer could get a flagged console for spoofing a non benq.Hope this helps.

Oh I see now =S I bought the samsung drive off eBay 'cus I didn't think it'd be an issue. After I found out you can't just swap a drive I thought how much easier it would've been to swap the logic board... maybe I'll save myself the headache and look for a benq. I'm in the US. I'm not in front of the xbox right now. Is the version going to matter when swapping the boards?

It would help having the same rom version there are different flavours but just match the numbers up to one of those.Has the xbox 360 been on live with the benq drive recently?BenQ VAD6038 (62430c and 64930c)

Alright, I'll try to get the exact same one. I honestly have no idea what the guy has done with it.
Thanks for your insight. I'll post more if I have any more issues.
