Hi evreyone, as the title says i'm new to modding/hacking the xbox 360. I need help with modding my console, I would use the search but without knowing what I am searching for I will get lost. All I know about my console is it's a 360 Phat running a Jasper motherboard with a Lite-On drive (don't know model or firmware version). Just Hacked HDD from 20Gb to a 120Gb =). If anyone can point me in the right direction Thank You in advance and if you need any more info I will try my best to supply it.
Your best place to start is here. Download the latest JungleFlasher release and read the tutorial in the documentation. Come back here if you have any more questions.
Check the pinned thread at the very top of this forum. You'll find guides there on how to flash your drive.
Personally I favour the Maximus Lizard for drive flashing. Some may say that it's overkill if you're just flashing your own console, but if you want to stay up to date with the latest dashboards/firmware, you may be flashing your machine 2-4 times a year and it makes it nice and easy to do.
Also, I would wait until LT+ 3.0 is released before you do anything. It's due to be released "some time after December 6th" which is today of course. There's no exact ETA, but it'll probably be out in the next week or two, maybe sooner.
So yeah, read the guides and figure out what you're going to need (in terms of hardware) to flash your particular drive, then purchase that along with a case opening tool and you'll be all set. I would recommend the Lizard plus a case opening tool as that's all you need to flash any fat 360 and most slims and it's easy to use, but there are other options.
Thanks for the replies they were very helpful. Is there anyway of opening the xbox without the case opening tool? are there any other tools other than the maximus 360 lizard (like Torx or other specialized tools) and is there any way to mod the case so I don't have to open it every time I need to re-flash the DVD drive?
The case is held together with clips and bolts. You're going to need the correct tools to undo the bolts, but you can open the clips with a screwdriver. The advantage of the case opening tool is that it allows you to release all of the clips in one go so that you can more easily open the case, rather than trying to get the clips undone one at a time. You can get a case opening kit with all you need for less than £2 delivered on eBay.
There may be a way to mod the case to make it easier to open, but I'm not aware of one. Once you've taken it apart a couple of times, it only takes a few minutes to do anyway.
As for alternatives to the Lizard, there are other products such as those made by Team Xecuter.
Thanks funksoulb, I guess modding my xbox will have to wait until after xmas after reading the tuts jungleflasher seemed very complicated so I think I will head towards the maximus lizard it seems straight forward. As for case mods I guess I'll look around if I find some I'll post a link (thats if it's not agains forum rules lol haven't read them yet) if i can't find any I might have to try make 1 myself lol
