Hi all, now I wanted to know if I could update safely to be able to play my USB flash drives videos, on my flash modded 360. It asks for an update and I get nervous now that it's flash modded

You need to download the optional media update and the only way to get that is via Xbox Live. If you haven't connected your console to Live in some time, read up on the issues with the silent dae.bin updates or you could end up flagging your machine. If you've connected to Live in the last week or so, then your console has already been updated with the new dae.bin, so you may as well connect and download the media update so you can play your AVIs.

Right, but just connecting to Live to download the update would almost certainly update your 360 with the new dae.bin file and that can affect playing backups offline as well as online, so be aware of the consequences before you go ahead and do it.

Do as funksoulb says. But for reference, a flash modded 360 acts no different than a stock 360, other than reading burned discs.
