Replacing a LiteON drive.

Was wandering what the procedure was for switching a Philips-LiteOn 16D2S with a Hitachi-LG 3120L, and after the switch, what are my options as far as modding. Not worried about Live and have a professional soldering person on hand cause I suck at soldering.
I'm either interested in swapping drives or being able to run backups off the hdd.. Which ever is easier..lol

first of all you have to get the key from the liteon drive, secondly spoofing an hitachi as a liteon would not allow you to play a lot of newer games, third, unless you have a bladed dashboard you could not play from a hard drive.

Interesting, so if for instance I spoofed using LT+ for Hitachi, would it not play AP25 games?

that is debatable, i was told in #fw that it would not work, but as i stated before, the best way to do it is not to spoof, just write the key to the hitachi, and leave it as an hitachi, i have had success with that, but as i was told as spoofed it will not read the ap2.5 games correctly if at all. i guess i should try it and see what happens, although i do not think JF will even let you spoof anymore.

I have spoofed LT+ before, but I always test my flashes with a backup of TimeShift. I didnt think to test them with a AP25 game.

Whats the problem with the original drive?
It want read the disk.
The tray opens, spins up, then says open tray. no error code or anything. just dosent read it i guess.

I don't even care about Live..lol
I just wanna get my drive fixxed so I can play back up games..lol
I'm gonna just get a new drive(74850C) and just extract/flash and be done with it.
