format the external hdds on the pc to fat32 as your doing it through the 360 which only formats a part of it to 16 gig for the 360 to see.even if you had a 3tb drive the 360 would only still see 16 gig and only be able to use that.its gotta be formatted on pc/laptop to fat32 as 360 wont pick up NTFS etc.

Can you boot into xell? If so then you should be able to see the hard drive.
Have you put any games on the drive yet?

I assume the external HDD has its own power supply?
In fad you need to set your game path, if you've done that you may need to change the scan depth.

Ok just to confirm, you formatted the drive using swissknife to fat32 format. Check properties of the drive after doing this. Make a folder called games on the drive. Use Xbox backup creator to transfer a game to the games folder. Setup fsd so it can see the games folder.
If that's not working I'd suggest downloading a copy of xell, burning it to a cd, loading into xell and see if the drive can be seen in xell. I'm at work at the moment so doing this from memory.

i formated the drive with partition magic cant get swissknife to work on windows7 home premium, checked properties of drive, was fat32, put isos onto drive via xbox image browser but fsd cant see the drive, drive is now pluged into rear usb, it works if i put the games onto usb flash drive and plug into front but not usb hdd, mayby i should just save up for a bigger xbox hdd, but i have 1.8tb of drives laying around but cant get to work

ok this seems to work first i formated the hdd with partition magic to fat32,then conected to xbox, then formated the drive under setings storage, then i put a usb flash drive into laptop and extracted the iso on to it, then conect usb flash to xbox, then using file manager in fsd move the extracted iso from usb flash to usb hdd, set scan to usb hdd , manual scan , then run game .when i go into setings storage it still says 15.9 gb free on usb hdd even though i have moved over 15gb of isos so seems that although formating the drive i still have more room on drive for games. just takes long time
