Slim and x360key

Hi
Am I right in thinking that I just need to read and save the key (dummy bin) to then use with the 360key? I'm thinking of buying a used slim and anticipate being able to read the key using my usbpro and CK3i to power up the drive (I won't need any soldering/drilling/Sputniks/Apollo/Gemini etc as not flashing the drive just getting key).
It's just that I've seen a vid using another gizmo to read rather than the usbpro.
Finally is there any evidence to demonstrate that the 360 key reduces RROD?

If you're buying a slim, you shouldn't be worried about the RRoD, that was with the really old models. And no, I don't think the xkey would help that in anyway. The RRoD was caused by the GPU becoming separated from the motherboard due to excessive heat within the console. The xkey isn't going to reduce heat build up within the unit. But, as I said, I haven't heard any widespread reports of the slims having these issues that the super-old units did.

If you're buying a slim, you shouldn't be worried about the RRoD, that was with the really old models. And no, I don't think the xkey would help that in anyway. But, as I said, I haven't heard any widespread reports of the slims having these issues that the super-old units did.
Not only the super-old units got RROD, but every phat model. Also it's not only the GPU becoming seperated due to excessive heat (to get this level of heat you'd need a defective fan, the solder would have to melt completely). The RROD was caused by different hardware problems, mostly because the lead-free solder used for the RAM, the CPU or the GPU got cracks due to the constant changes of temperature when using the device (heat) and when it was switched off (cold). Once these cracks got too big, you got RROD.
The same happened to the PS3, they called it YLOD. But opposite to the Xbox 360 even slim PS3 models still get that error.
Also when using the Xkey, less heat is produced, because the drive is only emulated, it isn't in use constantly. One less heat source.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

That's one hell of a manual which I will read. Can I assume, however, that I can read any slim with the usbpro? (maybe not 1071). Just want to read and then put the dummy bin file on the micro card that comes with the x360key).
Jury seems to be out on reduced incidence of RROD with x360key

I highly doubt the drive is producing much heat. The heat is generated by the GPU processing the graphics and visuals. Open up a computer after it's been running a game for a while, the graphics card and motherboard are gonna feel like they're on fire, that's where the bulk of the heat is coming from, which is why I said I doubt the xkey is really gonna reduce heat by that much, the drive isn't creating THAT much heat. That said, my launch XBox360 died from the RRoD. I now have two phat models from within the last couple years and a slim and I've beaten them to death with no problems. So I certainly wouldn't say all phats are highly prone to it, and I certainly haven't heard of a widespread problem of slims having issues. Obviously, any electronic device can fail, but you make it sound as though it's still something to be overly concerned about and that's just not the case anymore.
You're also getting a little carried away in the technical aspect of the RRoD. Obviously, there are a few different causes for it, but the main cause, from what I've read on the scores and scores of internet posts and web articles over the last 6 years points to the GPU chip's solder coming loose, due to the unit heating up and cooling down back and forth, over and over again. Anyway, like I said, I've got tons of friends who have phat units from within the last few years as well as slims and we've never had any issues. The only people I personally know who've had problems were with units produced in the first year to year and a half. Not to say other units don't have problems, just saying, the bulk were first year units, in my experience.

you are guaranteed to NOT get RROD with the new slim. 1071 can be read. I would get a lizard to dump. way better than the usb pro and more compatible with the xkey (even though both will work).
