Hey guys was wondering if any of you could help me with this issue. I've got an Xbox 360 slim flashed with the latest firmware. Everything was working fine until I decided to add a USB plug in cooling stand for added protection. After having the console on for about half an hour it froze during gameplay and the power button on the console went red.

I went over and held my hand over the vented top of the console to see how warm it was, and it was literally too warm leave my hand there. I thought the console was knackered, but after leaving it for a half hour and turning it back on (obviously without the shitty 'cooling fan') it worked ok, yet every time I use it since then, the console gets VERY warm without actually stopping working.

Is there any way I can fix this issue? I know the fan still works as I can hear it while playing and sometimes when I turn the console off I hear it going into overdrive as a cool down measure.

I realise Xbox's aren't all that expensive any more but I'd rather not part with this one as when I factor in the PCB replacement etc that I had to buy, it was nearly £200.

cooling stands or other devices are always a bad idea, they block off natural venting and create more heat than they remove, that being said, if its and original slim i.e. an early 2010 model it may need the thermal paste replaced depending on the amount of game play it has experienced, also a good cleaning out could do wonders, as far as the heat it is normal for them to get hot they are doing a lot of work, but the continued running after the fact tells me week thermal, and most likely very dirty heat-sync!
