Ignoring rebadged models, there are 6 drives that you can use for Burner Max: -

LiteOn iHAS124 B - A basic, no frills burner
LiteOn iHAS224 B - LightScribe
LiteOn iHAS324 B - Smart Erase
LiteOn iHAS424 B - LightScribe & Smart Erase
LiteOn iHAS524 B - Smart Erase & LabelTag
LiteOn iHAS624 B - LightScribe, Smart Erase & LabelTag

LightScribe = Works with special discs and allows you to imprint designs or text on to the top of the disc.
Smart Erase = A feature that allows you to essentially destroy a disc (without physically destroying it) so the data can no longer be read.
LabelTag = Allows you to "tattoo" the data side of a disc with text so that you can label it. Works with standard discs.

All of the drives that start with an odd number (124, 324, 524) are the same in terms of hardware and none of them have LightScribe. All of the drives that start with an even number (224, 424, 624) are also the same in terms of hardware and all of them have LightScribe. This means that you can convert a 124/324 to a 524 or a 224/424 to a 624, thus unlocking the extra features. Here's how to do that (try this at your own risk!): -

1. Download Flash Utility and EEPROM Utility from HERE. Use these apps to create a backup of the drive's firmware and EEPROM.

2. Download the firmware for the drive you are converting to HERE. If you're converting a drive to a 524, you want the stock firmware for the 524 and obviously if you're converting to a 624 you want the stock firmware for the 624.

3. Run the firmware update you just downloaded and update your drive. If you have more than 1 drive installed in your PC, ensure that you select the correct one or you may flash the wrong one and brick it.

4. Run EEPROM Utility again and click on the CrossFlash tab then click the "Convert Drive" button and convert the drive.

5. Power off your PC.

6. When you turn your PC back on, it will detect your "new" drive as either a 524 or 624 (whichever you converted to) and all of the features will be unlocked. You should then update the drive to the latest firmware using LiteOn's SmartPack utility, which is available HERE or via the stand-alone updates available at Firmware HQ, HERE.

7. Create a backup of the drive's firmware and EEPROM again.

8. Flash with Burner Max. Remember, your drive will be either a 524 or 624 now, so you should use the Burner Max firmware for the 524 or 624 drives (whichever is appropriate to your drive).

Hey funksoulb, a few questions if you got answers.
Does LabelTag use any space needed for the ISO?
Or does it write the label "behind" the data?
Will it interfere with the layerbreak?

I want to get one of these, but don't want the feature to be useless for 360 games.

Yep, it uses up disc space so it's useless for 360 games.

To use it you have to first burn data to the disc, but without finalising it, then you can use SmartPack (or Nero 9 Essentials or whatever) to "tag" the disc and finalise it. It's only any good for music CDs or labelling data discs.

CDW has these in stock and their warehouse is a half mile from where I work so I guess I'll be stopping by to pick up a 224 to convert to a 624. LabelTag would've been nice for 360 games.

funksoulb, on a side note, you may want to adjust the links in your guide. Noobs will probably struggle with them. You gotta copy the link, paste it, delete the first part of it, delete the percentage sign, and delete the "22".

One more thing, you have a list of re-badged brands of the iHAS drives?

Cheers mate! I wrote this guide on another site and copy and pasted it over and I didn't notice that. Fixed.

I don't, but there's a partial one here: -

You should be good to go with that one man. Unless you get really old stock, that'll be one of the required B models. I'm not sure if you can tell if it's the right model from the outer packaging, but the serial number is on the drive itself.

I had an old ihas324 a I got about 2 years back and went to a shop near the one i bought it from and got a new ihas324 b. It said windows 7 compatible on the box but the old ihas324 a box didn't say that. I couldn't see other signs on the box of it being the b version apart from that.

Thanks Funksoul,

I was told you could fix my damn blue screen mayhem/failed flashing experience. Just read the tutorial. Going to try in a few hours. *fingers crossed*
