I buy my game backups from a shop near my home but I think the guy who sells them doesn't keep himself updated with the happenings of the Xbox world and as a result is totally unaware of how to burn XGD3 games.
Whenever I've bought XGD3 games from him, I've got the "Unsupported Disc" message on my Xbox. As a result, I've concluded that he must be burning the games without an iHas burner (like how you burn XGD2 games) and I'm pretty sure that my conclusion is correct because he said that he doesn't have an iHas drive and I've seen how he burns the games.
But yesterday I went to the shop and he wanted to convince me to buy Max Payne 3 (which is XGD3). I told him that it wouldn't work on my Xbox (since his method of burning was wrong, but I didn't tell him that). I had my Xbox with me at the shop so he said that he wanted to prove me wrong by making the game work on my Xbox.
He inserted the game into my Xbox and I waited for the error message that I had become so familiar with over the months. But to my astonishment, the game actually WORKED and I was left dumbfounded. I immediately asked him his method of burning and he told me the same method used for burning XGD2 games (the only one he knows, I guess).
So my question is, how is this possible?

I burn all my xgd3 games the same I have as xgd2 and they work in my brothers benq drive but not my Hitachi drive. I think it might be the type of drive you have determines if it will work or not

If you have LT 3.0 +, all games must be burned with an Ihas drive flashed with the custom FW for your burner. You need to ONLY use verbatims and you must patch with ABGX.

are you burning at 2.4x ? Batman worked fine for me. You could also have a bad iso. Have you tried other sources? Does abgx read the iso as good?

everything is green on abgx and i have tried both 2.4x and 4x. and the iso iam using is the one done by complex. and in the comments it is working for mostly everyone. does it make a difference which burner max firmware i have on my dvd drive? cause im pretty sure it is lt v1.9 on the burner.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Guys, I think I found out how he did it.
There are two types of XGD3 games:
1. If you truncate them while burning, they'll give you an "Unsupported Disc" error message straightaway.
2. If you truncate them while burning, they'll work and maybe give you a problem later on (that 3% of missing data has to show up some way or the other right)?
And maybe the Max Payne 3 game that the guy played on my Xbox was the 2nd type? What do you think?

No, it isn't, the things missing are topology data, security sector and so on, if there was really relevant data missing for the game you couldn't start it in the first place, this is not like an analogue video tape.
But with most newer games truncating is not possible anymore.

I see no other reason for Max Payne 3 to work and other games to not work on my Xbox. Besides, how did Joe get his games working?

I should point out that whenever I've truncated a game, I don't play them online. That said, I still haven't had a truncated game fail to play till the end. However, I haven't done any super-recent games that way.
However, I'd also like to point out that, on most torrent websites I've gone to, there are plenty of people truncating newer games and claiming that the whole game works. However, this may depend on what drive and firmware your XBox is running. You should obviously burn the entire game, if possible, I was just mentioning that I've never had a truncated game not work all the way through.
