HI,

I just ran out of my verbatim pack I had. I remember reading a while back where it said to buy a specific model number (made in Singapore I think?) of the verbatim which I did and never had a problem.

I am wondering though, will any DVD DL work? Is it necessary to get that specific model number?

I use Verbatim 003's (Singapore) as a rule with my Dh24abs Cross-flashed to a Ihas 124B and never needed to change settings in ImgBurn.I was however given a pack of Aone gold (printable) when i ran out of verbatim.Admittedly a few coasters but the majority install to the HDD and run fine.A lot of people will use Verbatim for xgd3 and something cheaper for xgd2 as the success rate is higher.Asking what discs will work with your burner and setup is a how long is a piece of string scenario. You may or may not have good burns with cheaper discs. Are you using a Ihas version or burning through the payload tool?

I have an IHAS. Been using the verbatim 003 but ran out. Just wanted to go to a store and pick something up quick without having to order online so was curious if any regular verbatim would work or if I should really stick with the 003.

I use any Verbatim discs I can get, don't really care if they are 003s. They are still better than any other brand you can buy.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

My experience:

Verbs 003 - Never ever had a coaster until the XBGD3's came out. With XBGD3, I got a few coasters, but none since getting an iHAS, and adjusting my ImgBurn settings.

Verbs 001 - Somebody gave them to me burn his games (only got 1 coaster from the twenty-pack).

Keeping in mind that for some strange reason my daughter's 360 struggles with Verbs, I have used Memorex, Sony, RiData, Maxell, Aone, TuffDisc, Imation, and most other "low-quality CAD" discs for her, and they worked fine. CAD = Cheap Ass Disc" I would get about 3 coasters from a 25-pack of CADs. The only issue with her successfully burned CADs is that some of them seem to have stopped working over time (even with NO scratches on them at all). For instance, her Resident Evil 5 (Memorex) won't install anymore, even though it is in perfect physical condition. I haven't burned newer XBGD3 stuff for her because she RGH'd 2 years ago. But her CADs would install on her box, my son's box, and my box with no problem.

I made my son and daughter test/install about 25 each of some of the oldest games we had on Verbs and CADs (no scratches). 12 of 25 CADs worked. ALL of the Verbs worked.

I wouldn't recommend CADs because Verbs are NOT expensive. $1.25 each is not a lot to ensure a life-long quality copy. But who knows, CADs may work for you. Try a cheap 10-pack. Just don't expect to have a working game a few years down the line.

As you put it your CAD's will fail as you probably know due to just general wear from poor quality/thin dye's used, the strain the laser tries to read a poor burn.I used to scrutinize my burns every time even with Verbs 003's through Kprobe and then tweak ImgBurn accordingly. Now i just burn, install to the hard drive and let the disc run to authenticate.Because xgd2 games are smaller in size i have used "CAD's" and verbs for xgd3.All install and work fine 99% of the time.Admittedly they will come of age and decide to throw up errors either due to the disc quality or the strain the laser has taken over time. It's only minimised by a HDD install and myself keeping new lasers in stock.I don't think anyone could 100% recommend CAD's,yes you can get away with it in the short term but price per usage its verbs all the way for me.

Just follow Lightning UKs sage advice: Verbatim and T-Y. I use Verbatim for BR no coasters, on both 25 and 50 GB. I have more issues wearing out the dvd burners.
Avoiding inferior disks is an excellent way to keep blood pressure low.
