I know c4eva said to use Verbatim for XGD3 isos, but does will other media work?

One of the 360s in my house (my daughter's Lite-On) only reads Memorex and TDK really well. It will read some other cheap discs decently, but Memorex and TDK is what it likes. It won't read Verbatims at all (go figure). My son's box and mine both eat nothing but Verbs. I always rip & burn, then my son dupes it to a Verb and a Rex, for him and his little sis.

They are ready to play Gears 3 and she only only reads cheapies, which is not what c4eva suggested.

I could easily burn one and see, but I won't be home until Thursday night.

Has anyone used cheap discs for XGD3 isos? (Never thought this question would come from me).

It depends what you're actually asking, cos c4eva only mentioned using Verbatims in the context of the upcoming new burner firmware.

If you are burning using the truncate (or overburn for that matter) method that we're using now, then if the burn is good and it verifies and plays in your Xbox, then you're fine regardless of what media you use. Obviously, where XGD3 games have new checks (such as Forza 4) you can't safely burn with this method at all, regardless of the discs you use.

With the forthcoming new method, it's not burning the discs in the regular way and c4eva said that while the new burning firmware doesn't force you to use Verbatim discs, in his tests they were the only ones that burned and verified without errors, although he didn't say which brands of disc he'd tested. You might find a different brand that works, but you might not, while Verbatims are tried and tested. Obviously as the firmware isn't out until the weekend, nobody can answer the question of whether there are other brands that work as well as Verbatim yet.

Understood. He suggested what he tested. So cheapies may work as usual. My daughter will be glad to know she will most likely be able to play Gears 3.

Are you saying that this coming weekend c4eva is releasing software that allows us to create safe backup?
