A lot of work here just to play your "legally backed up copy" when you have the original disc sitting on your shelf. Or so people claim. LOL!
you know funny thing is, a good friend of mine had his copy of mw3 for about two hours and the drive scratched a groove in the disc so deep it wouldn't play...now if he would have had his b/u copy in... no harm.. no foul.. but instead he had to go buy another copy at 60.00(that's good enough reason right there)
I just don't understand this. I've been gaming since the NES era, I've had hundreds of games, Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, PSX, PS2, PS3, XBox, XBox360 and PC. I've never scratched any of my discs more than a hairline scratch here or there, certainly never to the point where a game wouldn't play. If you're over the age of 10, you should be able to use game discs and never see a scratch. I'm sure there may be those freak occurrences such as you mentioned, but I just find even that scenario hard to believe. I don't see how an XBox scratches a disc, unless you bump or move the console while the game is playing. How did just is MW3 game get scratched? All his other games work fine and have never been scratched? How did the XBox just manage to scratch just that one game, all of a sudden?
For with it's worth I've seen a Xbox 360 disc drive scratch DVDs without the console being moved. It's not that common, but it happens. I think every can admit across the board quality controller was not the 1st priority with Microsoft when they released this console.

I agree with you. It's just, I've had eight XBox360 consoles since 2005, I currently have 3 at the moment, and other than one of them getting the RRoD, I've never seen a disc get scratched.

How do you know you are downloading the tight TU? Some games have lots of options. Would each download have the same TU? Obviously you have to pick one with the correct region code.
Cheers

Well they do get scratched, I have seen it in my life twice on two different consoles..the laser scratches disc in a perfect cirle as it's spinning..makes a nice pretty ditch in the game all the way around the disc!

Yes you can but you will not be able to play online. The game will boot up and ask for an update and after you have applied the update, you will get the disc unreadable or unauthorized disc error. If you dont update then yoou will not be able to connect to LIVE.

I updated it to the latest dashboard, which restored my lite-on to stock fw. So if I flash it with LT 3.0, I can play games patched for LT 2.0 (without topology) with this workaround?

NO LT 3.0 is designed to work with the patched data

why would you not just patch in the topolgy data?? it's all over the net.. use xbc and inject it.. simple as can be.. this method is way more rediculous than injecting the data and burning a disc.. Can't imagine why anyone would want to use this method it was put out simply because there was no other way to boot the games at that time.

Not a good idea. If you play at all online, then you're risking your box. You need to properly reburn and patch all games ater flashing to LT 3.0 and current dash.
