I know someone who claims to have over 30 ps3 games on his PS3 but how is this possible if he never had that many original games to backup in the first place?
Hey can't blame a guy for trying lol and I'll have you know that I'm not a pirate...at least not yet. I guess we'll just go on pretending all the threads asking about backing up PS3 games have nothing to do with piracy.
I buy games...I do feel a little guilty doing so because sony makes money on every game sold...and right now I am more worried about Sony than Al Qaeda...but I still buy games. It isn't to support Sony...if the games were written by sony, I would pirate them. It is to support the developers who are not to blame for the actions of Sony. I am going to start buying PC versions when I can; not to use on PC, just to support the developer...then I will download the PS3 versions of the games, thus I will avoid giving sony $20 of the $60 purchase price (and in most cases, I will save $20 as well)...I wouldn't buy games if Al Qaeda was getting 1/3 of the purchase price; I should follow the same rule for a company that I fear more than terrorists.
As for Sony games, I might pirate them if there are ever any good ones released. When Sony removed OtherOS, the only way to recover full functionality (OtherOS and PSN) was to buy another PS3 ($300 for a base model at the time). This is still the case to this day; as it is not safe to login to the PSN with a jailbroken system...Sony would have blocked access by now if they were not tallying systems and getting ready for a ban spree. So, Sony owes me $300...that is 5 AAA new releases on launch day. Since good Sony titles are very rare (other than GT5, I can't think of any), I might use those 5 for PS3 exclusives; if a developer is willing to give Sony an exclusive, the only way to get it is to pirate it or to give sony money...and I am not giving Sony any more money.
Don't take it out on the publishers because Sony pissed you off. Just think of the purchase price as a donation to the development funds for the next game. I paid for Fallout NV in spite of the bug reports, and the game actually got worse after the last patch...but I don't regret the $40 I paid to Bethesda; only the $20 I paid to Sony. That $40 to Bethesda will go towards the development of Fallout Online (ETA 2012)...and the $40+ I pay for that will go towards the next title.
