So I've been trying to install package files and backup my games to the ps3's internal hard drive. One game has worked so far, but every other game I try to install errors at exactly 14% when I try installing the pkg file with error code 80029564.

What am I doing wrong?

Just go to ofw 3.55 then the new kmeaw cfw 3.55 and get the lvl2.pkg to run on every boot up prior to loading a BM. U shouldn't need to install .pkg's then for ur games. What kind of .pkg's are they? Are they for homebrew, full games or PSN games.

They're pkg files for full games. I ripped the games from the originals on my PC and tried converting the eboots to pkg files on my own but it didn't work too well. I downloaded some pkg files, but only 2 would install and one of those didn't work anyway because it was the wrong version for my copy of the game.

I also tried installing a PSN game pkg that I downloaded from... a less than reputable source. It also failed with the same error message.

You don't have to use modded eboots for this cfw +lv2 patch if you try to run them they will not work. I'm not too sure about the psn games but I'm sure about theoriginals that you converted. They have to be restored back to normal.

I've heard about the backup manager and lv2 patches, but was very nervous about installing these patches because the earlier guides said there was a high brick risk.

Do you have a link to the required custom firmware version I need for this?

Honestly though, of what I've read on the available methods I like the pkg method of loading games best. Fewest firmware patches to install and easiest to launch the games. The lv2 needs to be run every time you want to boot the backup manager. With the pkg method you just select your game from the main screen and go.

Ohhhhhh I was under the impression that you was using kmeaw custom firmware. Which firmware are you using right now? Also the lv2 patch will be integrated into the backup managers later so you won't have to run it every time.

I have the geohot custom firmware, the first one. Everyone else using it can just install pkg's without any problems. for some reason mine fails at 14% with that error message with almost every one I try

Go to ofw 3.55 then go to kmeaw cfw 3.55. u cn get it at ps3hax website. if u can't find a premade one pm me. the link is in one of the replys for it. If not google it and fastsum md5 hash checker to make sure that the premade cfw u find has the correct md5 hash (VERY IMPORTANT). The lvl2.pkg only has to be done once when u first boot ur system prior to running a BM. As long as u don't shut it off u won't have to run it again until next boot up. It only takes like 5 seconds and ur done and ready to go.
