My 40gb recently ylod'ed and I have followed gilksy's relflow guide and the ps3 now starts, however after about 5 minutes a message appears saying the system is too hot, and it shuts itself down. I can't hear the fan working at all, and the fan test no longer works, which I know worked previously as I used it to get the disc out.

Can anyone advise me what to do next? Is it as simple as just replacing the fan?

The fan might not be damaged; YLOD repairs often damage the thermistors that control fan speed. The simple solution is to get a fan controller to set the fan speed manually. As a bonus, the system won't overheat the way that it did before the YLOD, thus causing another YLOD. I have posted a guide to building one of these yourself ( http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=19810#axzz1FtM5Y4Ow ), and I also offer a plug-n-play design for $20 plus shipping (shipping is generally about $5).


Oh...how to test the fan:

Connect the black wire to ground, the brown wire to 12V, and the gray wire to 3.3V or 5.0V (either will make it spin).
