I'm planning to mod my PS3 this weekend.
I think the dust has effectively settled on the scene and we are now left with the best modding options.
I just want to check out a couple things before I take the plunge.
1) Is there a major risk to bricking my PS3 during any of the steps? (OFW 3.55, KMEAW CFW 3.55, Multiman loader, etc.)
2) Will I be able to install and watch Netflix (I have an account) on my modded PS3?
3) If I end up going the external HDD route, is the PS3 flexible with what you connect to it? I have a 500GB 2.5" drive that I am pulling from my laptop to replace with a Samsung SSD I just picked up. I would just throw the 500 GB drive in an external USB case and call it a day, if it would work.
Any help I can get to the above items would help make the process easier.
1) There is always a risk of bricking a device then you flash it. This is true of ofw as well. Kmeaw is pretty safe to use, probabyl has the same changes of bricking that ofw would have.
2) I think people said it works.
3) The hdd will need to be formatted under FAT32. 500GB is OK, but in case in the future you get a larger hdd, the maximum partition size a PS3 can detect is 2TB, and it will only detect 1 partition.
So if you have a 3TB hdd and made a 2TB and 1TB partitions, the PS3 will only pick up one, and not detect the other.
Note that some people forget that with multiman you also need bdemu2 in order to run some features.
