The hacking scene has not released the pointless updates...Sony did. Granted, they were in response to hackers, but they were not in response to piracy.
How the hacking scene has helped the average (non-jailbroken) user (ignoring all other hacking in history; just PS3 hacking so far):

How the hacking scene will help the average PS3 user (again, ignoring all hackers not on the PS3):
Sony shows their true colors. They either get spanked down in court and forced to be fair to customers once in a while, or at least a warning goes out so that future customers know what they are getting into. You say that most users don't care, and that is true...but sony just keeps going farther and farther. If hackers don't stand up and fight for everyone's rights immediately, it is only a matter of time before Sony starts doing things like blocking repeat PSN downloads and blocking 3rd party accessories (their new EULA actually says they are planning to do this). ...And again, no one will care about the minority when certain racing wheels that worked last week are suddenly banned, and no one will care about the small minority that get banned for using USB drives to backup their game saves, and no one will care about the small minority that get banned for using a logitech gamepad, and then no one will care about the small minority that get banned for using the old sixaxis instead of the DS3...do you see how that works? It is always easy to pick on minorities...and when someone says, "Screw them, they are just the minority" I can't help but think of a KKK march for some reason.

Your post reads as if people only bought the PS3 to pirate games. Well noone could pirate any games until only 6 months ago! almost 4 years after the PS3 was released! Why would pirates wait 4 whole years for a system to be hacked when it's rival was already hacked and had many of the same games?
A pirate would have bought an Xbox 360 not a PS3, for the last 5 years! Your assumption that PS3 owners are pirates are unfounded and silly. As Killerbug says, even if you assume all PS3s sold in the last 6 months, the only period in which pirates could pirate games, were bought by pirates, it is still only a very small percentage of the consoles out there.
You are only showing how ignorant and arrogant your views are on this subject.
As for my "lie", in the UK a 40GB console was also released, it's price was set at £299. In Europe the RRP for a 60GB console was 599 euros, though varied in different countries. I'll set you google it.

Even today the 360 is still better for piracy...the PC is the ideal piracy platform, but PCs cost more...so people pirating for lack of funds are mostly on the 360, while people pirating for the "thrill" of it have enough money saved from not buying games to buy a nice gaming PC.

You may think that is pointless updates but cause till recently no one knew much about ps3 , let me don't believe that the majority of the updates are useless or didn't block piracy. plus that the most updates after JB-Dongle was cause of that.
Have in mind that i have PS3 from EU release date, and i can very easy say what PS3 was and could do when i bought it and what can do now.
Blame Sony that some updates had bugs/bricked consoles or what ever, but pointless? why to release them then?
When the update say's that will improve system stability...whats wrong with that?

Was there for almost 4 years, GH tries to Hack PS3 via OtherOS. Sony removes it.
Can I be sure that Sony wanted to remove the OtherOS even if GH didn't tried to hack it? No i cant.No one can.
Can someone name any reason why Sony wanted the OtherOS out? if piracy wasn't the problem? Any logical explanation? None so far.
But i am 100% sure that even if Sony wanted to remove the OtherOS for a reason that we don't know or we'll never know, that F snake gave them the best excuse that could ever dreamed of......And by having in mind that GH asked for a job ..... well let me wishing sony to xxxx him up.

Maybe Sony wanted to disable them = more money for sony from 1st party devices, that really makes sense.But will never know. and truth to be said the JB dongle was for piracy and piracy only.
As i have said numerous times, i dont support anyone, both sides are responsible for their actions n someday maybe will know the truth.
But as for now, Sony haven't removed anything without a reason or without something/someone gave them a "really" great excuse to do so.
That is why i blame more the cocks that are messing with the PS3 than Sony.
As a company, Sony in this part did very well n clever, they turned around both cases to their own profit, and if they win this set of courts also .....well thats will be a huge success "for them"......... cause "for us"......we will reach to a point that we'll have to actually sign a life time contract to buy a console, or a game.
....and i'll let you have a guess who gave them "Help" to do so....

You are completely wrong, the reason for the disablement of third party devices, was due to dangerous Dualshock 3 clones, that had a tendency to explode, you can still use the JB dongle in 3.55 and 3.56.

Have you forgotten that the JB dongle with the original release software doesnt work on 3.50 FW??? and how long took for JB-dongles to work again with the newer FW's???

29th of November 2010 seen the official release of PS Downgrade, you still needed the $100+ PS Jailbreak Dongle to use it.
3rd of December 2010 E3, released their version of Downgrade.
6th of December 2010 seen Sony respond to the Downgrade method, by releasing firmware 3.55, which blocked it.
On 7th of December 2010 PS3Yes and PS3Key release their version of Downgrade

Why don't you read the rest of it, where it states that KaKaRoTo, found a method to downgrade on 3.55, thus proving that 3.55 DIDN'T block any jailbreak devices.

Stop feeding the trolls...he actually had the balls to say that I should focus my efforts on preventing YLODs...when I am the creator of the best YLOD prevention method on the market (in my humble opinion)...he clearly doesn't have any interest in learning anything, he just wants to annoy you. I could easily blast most of his backwards questions, but I am not going to waste my time on this one.

Lets see how does it help me....oh it is called homebrew. If you don't like it then you should stop visiting ps3 sections. All you have done is troll this thread. Maybe some of us actually want to understand how to program for it. As KillerBug's signature says on ps3hax.net "The first time anyone stole software on the PS3 was Sony". So your claim about 99.99% of CFW ps3s are for piracy couldn't be more off. If you dont like how the ps3 scene is heading then buy another system....oh wait they have all been hacked now.
