Help backing up my discs to internal HDD

I got my ps3 today used 40 gig. I want to Back up (for now my 1 game) to internal HDD . I installed 3.55CFW no problem. I tried to install the manager after the lv2 patch. and I get nothing but black screen. the icons are there in the xmb but I got nothing after I click on them. The disc is "Motor Storm". I just made the switch from xbox because I hated all ways fixing them. I only started with xbox because the box was given to me. I want to back up any games I get to internal HDD to save my ps3 laser life. Am I doing something wrong with the pkg installer? Should I try a different cfw?

you should download the latest multiman you can find it on psx-scene and all info u need is there .
