I've read online that if you install divx codec pack then you will be able to stream mkv files to PS3. I installed it but it did not work. Any ideas? If not are there any other ways to play mkv files without converting file to another format like avi or demuxed files because I tried two different softwares but I got error.

I'm use PS3 Media Server. It handles mkv, ogm, rmvb, etc, etc.
You can find version 1.30.1 here.

If you still want to convert to videos, try either AVS Video Converter or E.M. Total Video Converter.
