yes i know it has to be formatted to fat32 but other than that with it work? Im asking because the drive has no ac power cord meaning it only draws its power from USB and ive heard some ppl say that some external hard drives dont work on ps3 because the usb on the ps3 doesnt produce enough power to power the drive without a Y cable or a usb hub (or something like that) so im wondering if that would be the case with this hard drive or would the ps3 do fine to power it on its own without a Y cable or usb power hub?
Hmm idk, I think I hear the PS3 doesnt like seagate hdds as much as other brands, but this may only be for internal drives.
lol what am I saying, I have a seagate goflex and the ps3 picks it up, though that's on my otheros ps3, not tried it on my backup ps3...
I think it should be ok for external use though. As for usb power, that is only for the larger 3.5" portable drives, those require more power which the ps3 cannot supply, but 2.5" portable drives work fine.
Try a post on the sony forum & see what members are running, failing that get a powered housing another option is just a bare hdd with usb adaptor it also comes with power cord.Other option find out just what power rating in watts is on the ps3 usb then find out what power the external requires to run.
Edit:i wouldn't bother with that drive the usb cord has only one connector,go find the price of a 500 transcend the shock proof one the military use here in nz they're around $118.00NZ,it has dual usb connectors so can use power from two ports. The plastic packaging it comes in can be used as a carry protector, just cut a space where the usb cord comes out not that you should run it with the lid closed of coarse

What? My PS3 came with a Seagate from the factory. Granted, Seagate 2.5" drives are junk, but they work just fine for a PS3. The only externals that the PS3 has issues with are:
1.) 2.5" drives that are powered by USB, but use more than the 500mA maximum specified in the USB standard.
2.) Drives over 2TB
3.) Drives with hardware security measures built in
