am about to install larger drive to ps3 3.55. will i be able to keep the firmware at 3.55 since the latest is 4.10

Yes, just put kmeaw pup on usb stick and install it again.

When you add a new hdd you need to use a firmware that was last on it or a newer one, since you have 3.55 on it you can install 3.55 again without a problem.
