Just like before most game can be played without a disc, I think you need to run the lv2 patcher before running gaia to enable it. If you dont the option is locked on N/A and cannot be changed.

But as also remember some games still require a disc to play. Others can only be played on external using multiman's emulation function.

I didn't want to start a new Treat because it's a simple question.
I Have PS3Yes running 3.41 I was wondering if I need to update to custom firmware to play new games.
thanks

you'll need to spoof your ps3 to think it is on 3.55 in order to play some games, and I think it also requires altering a file for each game that does.

If there is a reason you are wanting to stay on 3.41 that's ok, but if not then i recommend installing kmeaw 3.55 cfw. This way you will not have to worry about using a dongle and playing some of the newer games, also save the hassle of changing the files.

most - if not all - games boot without a disc in the drive.... this is a BM feature, with the progress in BM (e.g. multiman) most to all games not boot without a disc in the drive... i know, been trying / running a lot of games straight off an external hdd with a broken laser. no problem with multiman

3.55 kmeaw and multiman are the best bet, well at least for now.
