Maybe this will sound noob, but I'm a noob. Ok, I have a PS3 years ago and a HDMI cable. Recently I played in my Samsung 56' TV connected to a Sony Home Theater system.
My question is: having the PS3 connected to the TV using an HDMI cable and the TV connected via those two sound cables to the Home Teater will give me 5.1 sound?
I play games and set the configuration of the PlayStation 3 audio in "automatic" and it gives me 2CH sound ALWAYS. When I select 5.1 and/or DTS I got no sound in games.
Some persons told me that I should get an optical audio cable for the PS3 and connect it directly to the TV so it gives it to the Home Theater amp from the PS3 or EVEN connect the optical audio cable to the amp directly from the PS3 (which would be troublesome because my amp is inside this kind of shelf with the backside very hard to get to.
Does anyone have any idea of how to get 5.1 sound only using the HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV and no extra cables? I thought HDMI cable would give me 5.1 when connection from the PS3 to the TV (and the TV via those two cables to the amp) but it appears not...
EDIT1: I now see that the amp doesn't have any HDMI inputs. The TV has FOUR HDMI inputs and there's this "DVI HDMI 2 AUDIO IN" in the right of the "HDMI 2" input (unused). The cables to the amp are out of the "TV AUDIO OUT".
Thanks for your reply! So there's no way I can have 5.1 with cables connected ONLY to the TV (which outs to the AMP directly)? I mean, there ALWAYS have to be a cable directly from the PS3 to the AMP?
I really can't understand this too much because PS3 has only one HDMI out and this one goes to the TV, which has the two-cabled out to the AMP... If I was going to connect the PS3 to the AMP using the HDMI I get no video.
In the manual says that HDMI out for video is 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p and the same for audio is 2 CH, 2.1, 5.1 and even 7.1. If the HDMI goes directly to the TV, how do I feed the amp with the 5.1 coming out from the PS3 without using ANOTHER HDMI cable from the TV to the AMP.
