hi ! i come from the xbox 360 world of hacking XD
and i want to buy a ps3 now because i got banded ><"
so my question is :
i understand there are cfw hacks for 3.55 and below
that are like j-tag for xbox
is that the only solution out there for backingup games ?
is there an option to play online on the cfw ?
dos it matter what model i buy ? should i look for something special ? i planing to get a 120GB HDD PAL SLIM one .
and will i be able to download(i mean being able to pay for) dlc and psn games ? <- thats what i really want and the reason for buying the ps3

thx in advance for your help =]

the latest custom firmware is 3.55; so any console with official firmware 3.55 or below is able to flash a cfw on. 3.56 and higher is not possible by no means. no need to ask or search for, the cut off is 3.55. like xbox live, you need the latest fw to go online. the latest is 3.61; so it is not possible to go online with cfw. if there will come a new cfw that is also the latest; you can go online. but sony policy is unclear; ban etc. is possible. which one, choice is up to you. like xbox with rrod, the ps3 has ylod issue. so buy one that has the seal on it, if the console is opened changes are that it had a repair. the release ps3 (60 gig version); has the ps2 chip in it. so it can play ps2 games, but those consoles are almost all ylod repairs. wouldn't buy such one; i would go for a late as possible model with fw. 3.55 or below. buy games on psn; yes, after buying you can play them. but you have to buy them for real (it is NOT like jtag and downloadable content that can be played on any jtag....).

in short; with a cfw you can't go online a new current cfw is out. it is doubtful if there will ever be another cfw beyond 3.55; up till now they couldn't decrypt the private keys (or something like that). so no new cfw is possible, so no psn and online gaming. and for discless playing you need a preferably a working laser, disc emulation is needed and for that you need a working disc (only to spin any original game up that is in the drive; which game doesn't matter. it only needs to spin it up for a second). without a working laser, a lot of games do not work discless. you get kicked back to the xbm (brink, mk9 etc. work discless but only with an original game in the drive. without a game - broken laser - these games and a lot of others also do not work.

Sorry man, theres no way to buy the DLC without signing into psn. Hopefully the scene will pick up soon and we will have psn and cfw 3.61 for newer games. Lucky theres nothing new that I actually wanna buy so its not that important to me, but there is some DLC that I want to buy.

same here,so in your opinion is it likely there will be some kind of cfw every time they update - like the IOS / PSP or is it more like the xbox jtag were u cant get cfw on the new Ofw.

im not sure if i should by the PS3, because if theres no way of using the ps store.. its like my sad online-less bannded xbox
