Okay i followed larrys 4.2u guide some time ago on my 4.2u wii. I recently installed CIOSx rev20b to get black ops to work. i havnt updated anything since then. i was running a 500gb western digital my passport usb 2.0 drive and it was running flawlessly. Unfortunately that drive belonged to my bro so i had to give it back to him after using it for a while.... I bought a 750gb usb 2.0 western digital my passport drive AFTER checking online and saw that other poeple have it and that it works.

Now when scrolling through the games when loading with CFG USB loader (i believe version 66) my wii is freezing. It boots games SOMETIMES with IOS 249 but will not let me load any rock band games via 222-223-224 etc. And i also get random 30 second time outs when i start up CFG loader

How ive tried to fix this:

1. started up parted magic, formatted the drive to FAT32, then formatted to WBFS with wii backup manager 3.0. transferred games. same results

2. created 2 partitions, one that read only 500gb...formatted the 500gb partition to fat32 , transfered games via backup manager 3.0, same results.
I also never installed the smartware that comes with the drive(terrible software)

3. Tried using wii flow 1.1. same freezing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Freezing when scrolling games is very evident with a WD hard drive using either r20 or r21 of waninkoko cios.

There is a modified version - the easiest way to get this is to download ModMii and use it to download the modified 249 and 250, this will stop the freezing in game and when choosing, it may help with the slow start up. Also get the latest version of CFG (67) as this has improved detection of modifies cios's

okay thanks for your response.

I downloaded MODMII...so just to clarify. I'm suppose to download the 249 and 250 that you are referring to under the category "waninkoko v20 CIOSs"? then select "249=cIOS249[56]-v20" and "250=cIOS250[57]-v20"? Sorry for the noob questions but i am not a pro at this and do not want to end up with a bricked wii. Thanks again.

DON'T use prebuilt externals. they have a sleep timer enabled on them. if you don't disable it, you will have problems.

buy a bare drive and a separate enclosure. i've been using one for over two years, and no problems; however, i am still using WBFS.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

When downloading the cioss, you need the d2xv3 versions - any of the d2x have the modified modules to sotp freezing (think they are all based on rev21

I have 249 (Base 56) rev 21d2x
and
250 (base 57) rev 21d2x

Glad it mostly sorted

Black opps need to be started with a cios of base 57, this would be 250 and also usually 224 - If you installed 224 v5.1 base 57
