Okay, in a nutshell, here's my situation.
I have zero modding experience, I'd prefer it if I not have to use a modchip or something similar for this.
I've downloaded six separate programs while trying to get the Gamecube Backup Player rigged up. Figured out how to get things installed, but I don't really understand, which leads to me doing it slowly.

Here's what I want to do:
Play Tales of Symphonia on my Wii from a USB.
That's it. That's all I want to do. This way, in the event I lose the discs, or the case the game's in, I can just pop in the USB and start playing.
I tried doing this myself, but the first program I downloaded(after getting the Homebrew Channel up) needed some other program installed, and that one needed some file that didn't come attached to the main download.
I'm asking here because after two days of working at this, I'm at my wits end, all the instructions are starting to blur together, and I'm annoyed at constantly having to go to four other program pages because either A) the attached link is outdated, or B) the program requires other programs to run.

The most recent development is my Wiimote disconnecting(And refusing to reconnect) when I try installing the WAD Manager or whatever it's called.
(I would like to mention that the above scenario reminds me of an incident that happened a couple years back where all my Wiimotes refused to connect for about three weeks, then the problem fixed itself.)

My questions are, basically:
1. What all do I need to get the Gamecube Backup Launcher running?
2. How long should this take?
and 3. Why is my Wiimote acting screwy when I try installing WAD Manager?

Download dios Mios 2.6, install the wad using wad manager 1.4
Use a GameCube loader, this program gets added to the apps folder on the sd card.

2) Takes a few minutes

3) No idea!

Hmm... I've been trying to use WAD Manager v1.7, could that be the problem?
Or would that be a problem?

======
(Edit)

Okay, I think I have everything set up.
Only one problem: No matter what I do, whenever I go to start the backup, the Wii's power flickers and it sends me back to the initial start up health-warning thing.
Any idea of what's going on?

Not all hard drives are compatible with dios Mios ( USB 3.0) a real issue.

Is the game compatible ( see the compatibility list-google)
Do you have a disc in the drive, any disc as this increases compatibility.
Do you have a GameCube memory card in slot 1, do not have anything in slot 2. If no memory card then compatibility is significantly reduced.

I managed to get things working.
No luck with USB Loader GX, but I managed to get things working through the DIOS-MIOS Booter.
Well, moderately.
Thing worked for all of fifteen seconds, and turned my Wii off during the opening cutscene.
I even retried it with a memory card solely in Slot A.
And yes, I checked, the game is compatible.

I don't get why you are having so many problems. Usually when you softmod you wii you should automatically be able to play GC back ups. I know I did and do (but this is when using a GC disk. anyways as for the playing off a GC game off a hardrive, it depends what type of Dios mios you want to have and which loader you are using. Some dios mios will not work with some loaders. Also you need Format your SD card to FAT/FAT32 with 64KB cluster size or less.

Look here it tells you how to install it.
