first, i have researched this but i am yet to find a thread that specifically answers if i can download the classic games without having issues on my softmodded wii. i was hoping to use this thread:
- i have no interest in them being free, i am willing to use wii points.
- my friend softmodded my wii to back up the games (i purchased) to a usb flash drive
- the installed specifically said "do not go to wii store or download anything, it will overwrite the changes i made"
i am hopeful that there is some way i can download the wii classic games (paying with points) without losing my softmod that allows to play my backups.
i have searched and searched, but all i seem to find (here and on the web) is people looking for free stuff, and no one is specifically addressing if going to the wii store will break my softmod.
thanks in advance.
edit: thought it would be useful if i added my software version . . . 4.3u
whoever said that you can't use the shop channel to download is stupid. you can use it like the softmod isn't there, provided that the shop channel is updated.

ok so i am confused . . .
when i go to the internet channel it tells me that i am going to download something. does that mean it is not updated? if i hit ok, will that ruin my soft mod?
as i am an IT guy (report developer, SQL, etc), my thinking is any download that doesn't impact the OS shouldn't impact my softmod. that being said, i don't know if wii has logic that looks for softmods on any download.
if someone could explain the technical logic of how a wii softmod gets overwritten, i would appreciate. who knows, maybe it is as simple as "you have 4.3U and it is the most recent OS . . . so until it is not the most recent OS you don't have to worry about your softmod being overwritten."
wrong. any update is to be taken with caution, especially ones that are done via internet.
as you can see in my sig, my wii is still at 4.1U, but is able to use the shop channel because i have installed the latest one. dop-mii is a homebrew program that allows you to connect directly to the NUS server, and download specific IOSes and channels without tampering with the current IOSes on the system already.
i have also prevented all disc updates and all network updates, with the use of priiloader. no one is able to update the system, unless i disable the options. but updating is not necessary because of dop-mii.
if you try to use the shop channel, you will either load to the channel itself, or the system will say that you need to update the system software. if it's the latter, do NOT accept the update. use dop-mii to install shop channel v20.

ok, now i totally get what you are saying. i like the way you are handling your downloads and will look to get my system moded to replicate your processes. that way, i can research a specific update and decide if i want it, etc.
