Hi guys,
I've installed this chip 4 times already to the point where the contacts gave out and had to solder to alternate points but it still does not read back-up copies. It won't read the setup disc either. Was reading and found somewhere to try a format, done but still nothing. It plays the originals but not the copies. Using Verbatim dvd-r, burnt several copies, no luck, any sugg?.. If anyone in the montreal region that can take a look for me, pm me.
Any sugg?..
Thanks
I would suggest just going with a softmod if you're having this much trouble with it. All firmwares and models can be softmodded now.
If you really want to get the chip working though then my advice would be to take some pictures of your installation. You might be bridging something somewhere. Also, I assume you did check the chipset and it is compatible with a wiikey?
First off do you know if your wii key is real or a hologram. Some wii keys are fakes. Second if you solder your wii to where the contacts gave out it only means you dont know what the $#@@ you are doing. Learn to solder or have someone who knows what they are doing do it.
Last why buy a mod chip where you have to solder? New wii key mod chips dont require soldering just linking the ribbon cable to the hard drive and to the disc reader to the wiikey.
I have a wii key that requires soldering as well. I know if you solder and it doesnt work or it doesnt read the boot config disk 1.3 it means you solder it wrong. To test i suggest popping in burned gamecube games. If it reads a burned gamecube game it would read your boot config 1.3 disk. From that point you need to update to 1.9S. If its not reading anything including verbatim - r burned with imgburn at 4x than you F-Uped.
All i can say is return the wiikey get a solderless one. Or get a new wii harddrive and try to solder on again but make sure none of the solder points touch and apply solder to the wii key before attaching the wires.

Geeeess... chill out ... :)
Trying not to go softmod cuz my kids are 4&5 yrs old, and they like to play before I get home from work, with homebrew, I don't want them having to open different apps, prefer the "pop in the cd and go" route...
Thanks for the infos..
I might take some pics of the installation and post as sugg...
