I recently bought my special needs child a Wii that came with a bunch of burned games.

I have been reading this site and must admit that I am "ignorant" as to the "language" as it pertain to playing burned games, LOL!

My daughter wanted the Michael Jackson The Experience game, so I d'led it, read through this site, converted it to ISO and burned it with Imgburn on 1x. Imgburn said that it was successful, but her Wii won't play it.

I have no idea how the Wii is modified and I don't have the contact info for the seller anymore so I can't ask them, but it does have a card in it and plays the burned games that came with it with no problem.

My question is...how can I get her newly burned game to play? If someone would be so kind as to explain it to me in a "Wii For Dummies" terms, I would sure appreciate it very much!

To run backups the wii can be hard or soft modded, the card seems to infer that it is soft modded, to be sure remove the sd card, will it run the backups, also do you have the homebrew channel?

Does the wii use a program to run the backups (on the wii menu do you start a channel e.g. neogamma)as this may need to be updated.

I use a hard drive not discs so have little experience of backup discs but with extra info I am sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

Ok, I removed the SD card and tried a few of the burned games that came with the system and they all played without the card in it. I do not have an icon on the screen that says Homebrew. The games all automatically show up on the very first icon in the top left corner. How do I update??? If it requires wireless internet, I'm screwed because all this poor single mom can afford is rotten dial-up internet, LOL!

Sounds like you have a hard modded (chipped) Wii. To update you would need to download the latest version of the firmware, burn it to a disc and run it in the wii, the problem is you have no idea which chip you have.

Options are
1)to open the wii and see if you can identify the chip (not recommended unless you know what you are doing)
2) to ignore the chip and look at softmodding your wii, softmodding (provided you did not get an import that may be region changed) is fairly simple. Once softmodded the wii can play disc games (use neogamma) or from a hard drive (cfg and GX loaders work great).

Use google and look for modmii, this runs on your pc and will download everything you need for the softmod (inc a guide).

Then look at the loader options and again use google to locate their sites and installing instructions

Do I dl the latest verson of modmii 4.7.0? I don't recall what I was reading about that said not to update to version 4.3 of "something", but I can't remember what it was that I wasn't supposed to get, LOL!

You completely lost me when you mentioned loader options...please explain in "dummy" terms for me?

Get Modmii, use the wizard function - it will prompt you which is the recommended system menu, i.e if on 4.1 then 4.1 is recommended, etc

Choice is
1) Use backup disks - need neogamma and can use your existing disks
2) Buy a hard drive and have all the games on a hard drive, this needs a different host program (loader) either CFG or GX are good options.

Are you remotely familiar with running homebrew applications on the Wii? Do you know how to add modmii to your sd card? If you're as inexperienced as you're making yourself out to be it sounds like you might need a few pointers.

Let us know what you're comfortable with doing and I'm sure we can talk you through this.

You're a good man Charlie Brown err Wiisel! Helpin' out the thoughtful, overtaxed single mom...attaboy. Ksemt, you said "Imgburn said that it was successful, but her Wii won't play it". Did you just turn on the unit and chuck the disc in? I started out exactly the same way, had a unit, didn't know if it was hard or soft modded, didn't know what a single program was for and Wiisel talked me through it in the most simplistic terms without talking to me like I was a doornob, you can do this. I have that game on my system by the way and if you want a game that's fun for kids to actually do, this isn't it! The dance moves are complicated and very hard to do, even for an adult who can "throw down". There are a number of follow-along dance games much better suited to children, ask me and I'll break them down for you. Now, if you want it just 'cause it's fun to watch MJ dance, well it's awesome. (hope adding my recent experience isn't considered "hijacking" Wiisel, I have the utmost respect for you. My boy would be playing Pong if not for you.
