Is it recommended to update to 4.1u?

Hi guys, Ive finally softmodded using larrylje's guide. Im still on 3.1U and have been debating weather to update to 4.1 or 4.2 (if its safe).
I find this a needed update to play various vc or wiware games, but have there been any recent wii games that require you to update to 4.1 or 4.2 (not just patches, but to actually play the game)?

Also is it safe to update to 4.2 now or is 4.1 still the route taken?

Would I be better off w/ 3.2- 3.4, I just want to be able to play the most recent wi ware and wii games.

If you like playing Wiiware/VC, the added SDHC support is a great functionality in firmwares 4.0 through 4.2. This as you probably already know will let you expand your storage up to 32GB. If you are playing games through a backup launcher of some sort, then firmware is irrelevant as custom IOSs (cIOS38 a.k.a. 249 & cIOS222) are used to boot the games. If you do decide to update, update to 4.1 only.
