I kept my wii running for at least 3 days non stop (maybe 5 days).
I backed up superpaper mario at 8x. I tested other speeds and this is the best error free speed so far. I used the same verbatim brand dvd-r. The 1st dvd backup was 100% working, no freezes. I turned off my wii to adjust my sensor bar. Now that 1st backup dvd will not read no matter what I try. Then I make another backup with all the same specifics. Now it is working as it should.
Any ideas as to what happend? Im guessing the data on the DVD somehow got corrupted from over long period use. I know that super paper mario actually goes into a power save mode too when you idle.
Could be--There's no real way of telling. There could have been damage to the disc, it's data or even some temporary damage to your DVD Drive due to overheating or overuse--Just be glad you got it working again.
Ok I have a better picture of what's going on. When I backup superpaper mario like how i mentioned above, the game works 100% the first and only time I try it. If I turn off the wii or go to the wii menu and try to have wii read the dvd again, it will not read it at all! I'm using an asus burner and those dvd-rverbatim (azo model). Is it the dvds im using? the burner? or the software? (I used imgburn).
I remember there needing to be a fix put into superpaper mario in order to work properly (maybe that is the problem)?!?! Sorry but this game is so old I don't remember too well. Have you tried burning other games and trying to run them?
If other games do the same (then it could be your burner not burning properly or your Wii lense not reading properly. Verbatim are pretty good DVDs to use on the Wii so those should not be the problem.
I used to use Ritek and never had problems. I am probably guessing it's your burner, but then again it's kind of difficult to tell unless we are there to check properly.

I think your absolutely right. That's what I've been trying to understand right now. It can only be one of two things; the burner or the wii lens. I previously modded the gamecube, and if you done that too, you would remember that we had to adjust the size of the laser lens by tweaking the pot. I tried to figure out how to test my burner, if that's what your suggesting. I can't find a simple guide to test the quality of my burned dvds. I really think its the wii lens though. I haven't touched my wii in 2years and just came back to it recently. I hope adjusting the lens (if possible) is easy, like the gamecube.
I burned another game Muramasa. It did not read the first time, so I tried ejecting and inserting a few times. I realize now that that doesn't help like 95% of the time. I gave up and turned off the wii... I turned it back on the next day and it read the game! I played with no freezes... it was flawless. I tried it again and same issue. Either it couldn't read it or it asked me to insert a disc. I tried powering off and on this time. I did this for about 5 times and... it read the game eventually. This looks more like a wii lens problem right?
The only thing I can recommend at this point is that you buy and try to use Nintendo's Official Lens Cleaning Kit, which is available at most, if not all, gaming retailers. This will clean the lens of any contamination, and hopefully restore the full functionality of the DVD Drive. I am not guaranteeing that the cleaning kit will work, so only buy it at your own risk.
Alternatively, if the lens cleaning kit does not help and you do not want to go through the hassle and expense of trying to repair your Wii's DVD Drive/Lens, you could always take up USB Loading as a method of loading games.

lol I just discovered this a few mins ago. I was about to ask why didn't anyone tell me you could load them via USB (portable hdd). I've been out of wii modding scene for about 2 years, so I wasn't updated. I just spent $25 on 100 dvd discs... I'm not sure what to do with these as of now hah. I guess I'll keep them for something hopefully.
