I'm making a wii laptop mod for the hell of it. Right now I'm deciding if I should do my best to stick with the dvd drive, or just replace it with a hard drive that runs my backed-up games. I'm using an actual laptop casing that can fit the wii, but the space it really tight with the dvd drive.

HDD is far better, however I believe you have to leave the DVD control board connected to the Wii or it will not work.

Thanks for the tip. Ended up getting a wii with a broken drive for 36$ bring I wont need it.
