Hello everyone,

Even though I've got my Wii since 4 years now, I've just started yesterday looking into softmodding it because of the convenience of loading my original DVD games from a USB HDD.

Apologies if my newbie questions are stupid but, after reading many documents/guides/discussions on various sites, some of my questions have not yet been answered.

I've got a 3.1E firmware which I softmodded (+HBC install) with Bannerbomb.
I believe I have the iOS36 on top of which I installed iOS249. (I'm not sure to understand the difference between base number and iOS number)

Some recent games such as COD Blacdk Ops require a 224 with base 57 to be installed in order to launch them from USB HDD.

My questions are the following:

- does "base 57" mean that I need to install a iOS57 prior to installing the 224 ?
- will the iOS224 installation be possible with my 249 (base 36?) without installing a iOS57 ?
- will iOS224 installation have consequences on my 249 installation and, indirectly, on all the game that currently work?

Can someone please explain the difference between the iOS 222,223,224,249,250 numbering and the iOS 36,37,57,58,60 numberings ?
I'm a bit confused here.

Thanks.

IOS's under 200 - for nintendo to use to make the wii work, these are updated every now and again and for new system menu's

222-223-224 etc - these are just slots, you can put anything you like in them if you really want to, however there are 2 types of Custom CIOS's

Waninkoko - now rev 21 and usually stored at 249 and 250
Hermes - now rev5.1 and usually stored at 222,223 and 224

Bases - the CIOS manipulates a standard nintendo ios either 37, 38, 56, 57 etc

I have installed

222 - Hermes rev 5.1 Base 38
223 - Hermes rev 4 base 37 merged 38 - very good for usb attachment games
224 - Hermes rev 5.1 Base 57 - for Sims3 and Call of Duty Black Ops

249 - Waninkoko rev 21 (modified d2xrev3) Base 56 - Plays almost everything
250 - Waninkoko rev 21 (modified d2xrev3) Base 57 - for Sims3 and Call of Duty

Modified bases (used ModMii to get them) as some hard drives suffer freezing and stuttering with rev 20 and rev 21 from waninkoko.

Thanks for your responses.
What is unclear to me is that I'm almost sure I do have 249 Base 36 (not 56) and none of your combinations lists it.
Indeed COD Black Ops doesn't work but I would like to understand what I should do on top of my current modded system.

Should I install a iOS57 prior to installing Hermes 224(57) or does it do it automatically through the cIOS installer 222 ?

Will this extra install (Hermes) mess up the Waninkoko 249 installs ?

Do I only have to run cIOS installer through HBC and install Hermes 5.1 224 only?
Is it possible to do it through the internet or do I need to get the WAD's locally and install this through WAD Manager?

Sorry for all these questions but most of the manuals start from a clean unmodded system whereas mine is already in 249(36) from what I can see.
Hence, it is unclear at which step I need to resume the install from the guides or if I need to undo certain things before proceeding.

Get Modmii, this program runs on your pc, use the wizard and treat your wii as a virgin 3.1E and choose what you want to safely update it to (4.1/4.2 are good choices)

It will download all the programs cios's and also a step by step guide.

As you have the homebrew chanel already, start from that point.

You can have many cios's and hermes and waninkoko are quite happy on the same wii. Modmii will give you a recomended list (that is what I have)
