I'm aware that black Wiis are notoriously hard to soft-mod because of their virgin state, however I have found some guides on how to softmod them. The only problem? Most of the links to download the necessary files for these guides have been deleted. I was wondering if anyone knows of a decent guide that still has working links so as to help soft mod a black Wii.
Just modded one of those with the Smash Brothers exploit last week.
There's info online, don't have the links handy, but just search for "Wii Smash Brothers exploit" and you should get hits for a tutorial.... You'll need an SD card to prepare in order to pull this one off.
Black wii's are no tougher to mod than any other wii model, the only difference is that they contain the newest DVD drive revision that cannot read burned disks no matter what is done to them so you need to play your games using a USB loader. Just to double-check, whenever I read guides on how to soft-mod a Wii, why do I keep reading stuff about how even though this guide is for firmware4.3, it won't help at all if you have a virgin Wii? One tutorial I was going to try out (up until I discovered that some of the links didn't work) says right away that this guide is not recommended if you have a virgin wii.
Since I'm going to run games off of an external hard drive anyway, would that mean I should just disregard the warning, and follow the steps regardless? Also, even if the guide works, it will still do me no good if I can't get a hold of the files needed to do the job. As a result does anyone know of a guide that still has all of it's links working properly so that the guide in question can be completed?
I just checked the links myself on the guide you liked (which is the proper guide you should use for 4.3 system) and all the links work fine for me. Which link is not working for you?
Well this is odd; I remember checking through this before, and I remember at least one of the download links early in the guide was dead. As far as I know the guy must have re-uploaded them, and edited the post. Regardless of what the reason is I've already went ahead and, downloaded all the files before any of them has a chance to 404 again.
