I need to know if I bricked my Wii (well, if I'm about to), I was in homebrew at hackmii v.0.3 and it told me there was a homebrew update, I accidentally hit "yes". I may have done nothing and I'm overreacting, I know not to update 4.3 but I stopped at the menu and I'm afraid to continue. I was updating to hackmii v0.8 and I'm at a menu that says: test results are in.
homebrew channel can be installed
bootmii can only be installed as an ios
the installed boot 1 version prevents a boot 2 install (-2)
continue>
To clarify, I have not made a selection, I left it in this screen, tv is on and my very ill son just wants to play his wii in bed. I have a modded wii using a 1 Terabyte external hard drive with all our games backed up to it (yes really, we own a second wii that uses discs but I'm afraid to hit continue or to unplug the wii or hard drive without your advice or is it already toast whether or not I installed hackmii update .08

You haven't bricked your Wii. I'm a little confused on how you got to the hackmii installer though, 0.8 is the newest version, you are safe to update it. Have you installed the homebrew channel already? If not go ahead and do so, and install BootMii as an IOS. If you already have the homebrew channel installed, you should be fine to back out of that menu, press B, or the home button to exit.
The System menu update(to 4.3) is the one you want to avoid, updating homebrew software is usually safe. The Wii will try to update the system menu when newer games are run from the disc channel, or when connecting to the internet, just decline and update the needed IOS with pimpmywii or something similar.

I have a full homebrew installed, running Hackmii 1.0.3 and I wanted to update to 1.0.8 but I didn't know if it was important not to update my HDD while plugged into the Wii and should only do it when on a USB hooked up to my PC. See I don't even know where to begin, I don't even have homebrew on my PC, I had a pro set mine up and he brought his own lappie and had already loaded up my Terabyte external drive with homebrew. I can tell you there's a 2 gig card in the front usb of my Wii (what's on that, homebrew stuff? It's not an R4 card) I know he loaded about 40 flicks which I can't find either and I'm guessing he threw a password on it too. So the big questions are "can I update from 03 to 08 while my external disc drive is plugged into my Wii or is that update something I should only do hooked to my PC? I do have a wireless network but the Wii doesn't have it's own N adapter yet so I may not be "connected". Is there a newer menu that makes it so you don't have to click 200 times to get to games starting with the letter "M"? Thanks much for replying so fast.

I know we've already been over some of this stuff, but I figured I'd answer not only for your benefit but for others.
If you already have the homebrew channel installed it is not really necessary to update the hackmii installer. Having your HHD plugged in while updating anything on the Wii will not harm the HDD, it updates only the Wii system menu, or the specific homebrew apllications. You don't run homebrew on your pc, although there a few programs which might make things easier. WBFS Manager, and Wii Scrubber are about the only programs I've ever used. The sd card contains software needed to run the homebrew applications like neogamma, usb loader gx, geexbox, and emulators. Most homebrew applications will not function without the sd card and the software on it. The flicks could be viewed with apps like geexbox, or WiiMC, both can be downloaded from the homebrew browser, or if you prefer to have channels you can search google for wii .wads. You can find almost anything as a channel anymore. The wii uses wifi, you can setup it up in the wii settings, its pretty self explanatory. As for searching through masses of games, I use the app USB Loader GX, which has a search feature, and also a pretty fast scroll. It even has cover, and disc art which can be downloaded to help identify the games. I'm sure you've picked up some of this knowledge by now, but hopefully you've learned a little something from this post.

I only knew to go to M Player for Wyatt to watch his DVD's (his player died, I haven't repaired it yet). I may not be able to do Wii, but I can fix any broken DVD Player! I'm good with electronics obviously, even repaired my own $5,000 flatscreen (and no, not a bulb replacement) Quote was $600, I did it for $90 in an hour. If you can work on a $35 million Jet Fighter, home stuff is a walk in the park. Don't even have to be very good at it, you just can't be afraid to eff it up and try. Anyway, don't wanna get flamed for "chatting" but you guys are like friends to this disabled putz. I see them on my Wii, but what are channels exactly, which are the most relevant? I really want to get into the new menu thing as I can't stand finger tapping through 400 games every time Wyatt wants to play a different game. This is especially true since he's 5 which means every other game he wants to play starts with "Lego", which is of course near dead-center of the 400 games! It would be awesome if you could tell me about the scrolling menu and particularly the way to put a game jpeg/icon next to the game since he can't read very much yet. Thanks my friend

I'm going to read all these sites, would you be so kind as to maybe give me a list of the most valauble things to download to my PC that I'll be working with? Don't knock yourself out, I'm sure I can seek them out over time, but the last time I DL'd stuff I thought would help me work on my Wii ISO's, well...you know how well that turned out! With a list I may be able to avoid downloading 20 proggies I don't want or need, or worse, conflict with my work like MagicISO and PowerISO did.

Oh, and PS Someone could have warned a brother not to DL large numbers of rar files for one game! I DL'd one with twelve 400 MB files using JDownloader (and this is the part where you tell me which DL proggie I should be using) and it took like 8 hours, 400 MB then stop, type in robot letter code, 400 MB then stop, type in robot letter code times 12! Then of course, it's not like you can wait by your PC to answer every robot code so it waits for you to launch the next file!

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about when you say "wii wads in the menu". It's an app in the homebrew channel? A .wad is the file extension of a wii channel, .dol is the file extension of the program. The .wad is kind of like a shortcut to the homebrew app. A channel is what you see on the system menu screen(first screen that comes up with disc channel) it just makes it a lot easier to access your homebrew, and in my opinion looks a lot cooler. Wads are installed with a Wad manager, which is a homebrew app you run on the Wii through the homebrew channel. The first link I posted, http://wehackwii.pbworks.com/w/page/8844402/FrontPage will lead you to some .wads. Look on the right side and scroll down until you see wii channels. On the next page, scroll down until you see custom wads. I'd get wad manager 1.3 and Usb Loader GX.
Now this is this the tricky part, that SD card thats in the front of your wii will need to be inserted into your pc. Open it up and you should see a few folder, for example, private, apps, and the one you need to open, wad. Open the wad folder and slide both of the wads(usb loader and wad manager) into the folder.
Like I said, I don't use many programs on the pc, and I only use a few on the Wii. One that I've found to be crucial is PimpMyWii, it can hack your Wii by itself, and will download and install missing IOS to your Wii at the touch of a button. Makes softmodding REALLY easy. You can find it here.http://dl.qj.net/wii/applications/pimp-my-wii-211.html. When downloaded you'll get a .rar(you're favorite!) double click the .rar or extract to desktop whatever you prefer, you should have a folder pimp_my_wii 2.11 take this folder and put it into the apps folder on your sd card. Eject the sd card safely, put it back into the Wii, and pull up the homebrew channel, you should now see an app called pimp my wii. Start it up and you'll see a few options, look for wad, select wad, and then navigate to your wad folder, install the wad manager 1.3 and USB Loader GX. When finished exit PimpMyWii, and return to the homescreen, you should have two new channels. Usb Loader GX will be your channel for games, its pretty easy to use, my 5 year old nephew can handle it. You should your games listed, or displayed one way or another, you change the way they're displayed by the little boxes on the top(hard to explain). To download the cover art press a on the blank image that looks like a game case and you can download cover art for every game you have. I go with the 3d ones, I'm pretty sure you can disc images this way too. Select the game you want, a spinning disc will pop up, click the disc to play. It also has some options for running games on a specific IOS or using Ocarina(cheat program). Its pretty self explanitory but if you have an questions just ask.
The wad manager channel should open directly to your wad folder on the sd and allow you to install other wads(channels) without going all the way into the homebrew channel. http://wehackwii.pbworks.com/w/page/8844449/VC-Wads That link has a butt load of virtual console and wii ware wads that just have to be downloaded and put into the wad folder on the sd card and installed with wad manager, or through PimpMyWii.

Was just doing some work with your latest screenshots and allow me to thank you as I laugh my a$$ off at myself and humbly apologize for being such a tool when I got started. If anyone's like me and basically knew nothing about Homebrew short of where the power button on your Wii is, go back and read your old posts and you'll understand the need for stickies and noobs should be forced to buy their Senior or Mod that helped them a fifth of Absolut for being so damned tolerant. I asked poor Wiisel this 12 pronged convoluted series of questions to save me from bricking my Wii and ended it with "can you tell me how to set my wiimote up so I don't have to click so much"? Seriously? Little did I know I'd asked him to answer a dozen questions and followed it up with asking him to explain installing a configurable loader. This is the equivalent of asking how to plug in a computer and when you're done tell me how to make the circuit boards. Point is, learn from this extremely humble noob, READ WHAT YOU'RE ASKING BEFORE YOU HIT SEND! If I read my posts first, knowing even as little as I do today, I'd have shot myself in the face. I told him I hadn't installed HBC to my PC yet, that I knew I shouldn't update 4.3 (uhh, I have a 4.1), asked if it was not important to update my HDD? and I told him there was an SD card in the front of my wii in the USB port (yeah, if I melted it down and reshaped it) among other atrocities. Thanks for your good nature, Wiisel, I am editing my post. I went with your previous advice and backed out after I loaded up from 1.0.3 to 1.0.8. When it finished "updating" it took me to my Hackmii and showed me the "can't boot 2, I can only do it from an IOS. A) I don't understand, I thought this only happens on 4.2-4.3 and I have 4.1. I couldn't back out with B button or "Home", I had to unplug. Here's my quandry my friend, all I want for Christmas is to have Priiloader properly functioning so I can begin installing Loaders and fun stuff, but I can't/won't till Prii. Thing is I read here Prii is only good on 1.0.6, well without being able to load up the lastest 1.0.8 since I can't do boot 2, I'm cornered? Can't install Prii w/out 1.0.6 or higher, can't get into the many projects I'm ready to tackle w/out Priiloader ready to rock. Prii is in my HBC but when I launch it, the message near the bottom of the page says deleted file and no password, presumably Prii failed because I'm only running 1.0.3, I will tell you I added the hashhack but I found several that claim they are the right one for my 4.1 and 2 different ways we should rename hacks.ini, so I could have the wrong hash or the wrong name-change. Hope I was concise and to the point.
