So, I have been the lucky recipient of a used Wii, but it came modded. Unfortunately, the place it was bought from doesnt have any systems to give. I have zero interest whatsoever in homebrew, and the modding is preventing me from accessing the Shop Channel or playing new games. Ive formatted the system, but no idce. Ive attempted to update the system via the internet, it wont do it. Ive attempted to do it with a game (Metroid Other M), the system gave a general fail message, and now wont read the disc at all. Ive done my research enough to know that Priiloaders on the system, and Ive already gone in through that menu and disabled the option that blocks updates, but its nothing doing either way. Im definitely computer savvy, but all the guides on how to virginize the system is more work than Im willing to put in. Is there a For Dummies way of getting this shit off the Wii?
The easiest way is to update via modmii (google will find) upgrade from your existing system menu to one lower than the disc you have (eg to 4.1 if you have a 4.2 disc) - follow the guide but do not install priiloader. Then use the disc to update (from 4.1 to 4.2) delete the homebrew chanel and you will have erased what you need of the softmod

Actually, I have 4.2U on my Wii. Metroid is already 4.3. Will this still allow the disc to update if I run these files?
As you are on 4.2 already you only have one step to make so the idea I suggested will not work.
If you just want to play genuine discs then use modmii to update to 4.3, if you dont install priloader then if there is another update you can just do it - in the mean time once at 4.3 all new discs will work anyway
